Big A$$ Yacht

Post by patr »

Yesterday while limin' on a beach at Caneel, we noticed a monster of a yacht out in the channel. No kidding, the boats that normally look huge were seriously dwarfed by this beast.

We we wondering what gazillionaire owned it, when out of the east come a sleek-looking helicopter. Not the ordinary tourist type, it was dark blue or maybe black. It actually landed on the back of the mega-yacht!!!

Donald Trump? Richard Branson? Who knows? After about an hour or so (just enough time to eat lunch, maybe) the helicopter took off and headed east. Heading for Necker Island, perhaps?

Was it called Floridian? I think that was Wayne Huizenga's boat with helicopter that says Miami Dolphins on it.

Didn't you get the name?!
I look them up on yachtspotter.com. I check out floor plans, crew, menu options, schedules....
You just never know when you might need a yacht!

Good oen Waterguy, you made me chuckle!

Ron, we could not read any thing on neither the yacht or the copter, they were too far out in the channel. Who is this Wayne guy?

Was it a dark color hull? We saw one in the channel when we were parasailing that was huge and had a copter on it. The hull was very dark, maybe black.

I'm guessing this was the ship you're talking about.
I have no idea how to post the picture of it but check out this posting on the blog by the people building the villa Amansala on St John. If anyone else knows how to post it, please do, and can you tell me how you did it?
Thanks.

$100 Million Sailboat - The Maltese Falcon

They wrote, "(So we are tootling into Norman Island and The Wille T, when we are blinded by this sight. It took a few seconds to recover, close our mouths and pick up the camera.)
Found the scoop - we were correct. It's expensive ($100 Million), it's big (reported to be the largest in the world currently at 289 ft long and 180+ ft tall masts), and it's owned by James Bond or a high tech industry guru (Tom Perkins who was the first General Manager of HP, also venture capitalist behind Amazon, AOL and Genentech, plus other businesses).

Darn it - we could have charted The Maltese Falcon for $335,000/week.... Let's see, our charter from Ocean Runner for the day - was $600 (including gas). Hum?"

He owns the Miami Dolphins as well as the Florida Marlins I believe. I saw it close up at Yacht Haven Grande the night of the grand opening when I finagled my way onto the docks!

2Cat... That's one heck of a sailboat! That thing is gorgeous! The yacht that I saw with the copter on it was a power yacht, not a sail yacht.

2cat, I saw that boat on TTOL, it is amazing.

The yacht I was referring to was a power yacht, not a sailboat. It was at least 4 or 5 stories tall and absolutely huge. We thought it huge, but when the copter landed on the back of it, we were blown away!

Waste Management Int'l
Blockbuster
Autonation

He's done well.

Don't forget National and Alamo car rental.
I worked for a smaller rental car company back in the day that got bought out by them. Met him when he visited our corporate office one time.

The Midlandia was at Caneel and Francis when we visited back in Mid March. No helicopter, but at 170 ft, it dwarfed most of the other boats.

Apparently you can charter it for only a quarter million per week plus fuel and tip.

Blue Moon

Post by Crazy Otto »

The 198-foot Blue Moon was anchored overnight in Magen's Bay during the week of 3/10-17 while we were staying there. We took some photos of her from our villa but these are better:

http://www.luxist.com/2006/02/15/blue-moon-yacht/

Lots of water toys: two smaller (25-30 foot) boats, waverunners, dinghy, you name it. They went swimming at night in the bay and turned on lights below the Blue Moon's waterline, it lit up the bay like a swimming pool.
Reality is over-rated!
