Ram's Head Here I Come, Will I Come Back...

Post by TouristTrapCheryl »

.
Stephanie, little miss forumite herself, talked me into hiking Ram's Head for the full moon this weekend.
I've lived here 11 years and I've never hiked Ram's Head.

So I called my mom last night and I told her that I was going on a hike with a friend
I met from the restaurant via the forum. I told my mom how amazing the hike would be, how
I would look to my right and watch the sun go down, then I'd turn to my left and
watch the full moon rise. My mom said nothing. "Mom, are you there?"
A wary "yes" was followed by another bit of silence, then my mother spoke
"I don't know Cheryl. How well do you know this Stephanie?"

And this just goes to show, yet again, that the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Not even when that apple falls into the ocean and washes ashore onto a little
speck of land a million miles away, because the first thing I asked Stephanie was
"Is Ram's Head the kind of desolate place that you would take someone if you wanted to dismember them?"

I my mom.

As for Stephanie, her answer was "No", but she said that after a bit of maniacal laughter, so we'll see...

Why no! It's the kind of place where you tell the person "just one step further. No really come here. A little bit more. Do you see that? Just go a teensie bit further." And then, you push them over the edge into the sea. Whaahaaahaa!

I'd hoped that you would have joined us when we did the walk in March. You'll have fun... really!

I've decided, rather foollishly, to take the wife and 8 year old out there in a few weeks. It should be fun...if we survive the incessant "It's hoooooooooooot out" whines

Hey,Girl! You really want to accomplish a mega-accomplishment? Talk Larry into doing the Ram Head hike. He told me that he hasn't done one STJ hike in all of the years that he's been there.

So this is why Stephanie called the other day asking if I could ship a machete to her local on the rock.

Nah, you're perfectly safe with Steph. She just likes to walk too much.

All kidding aside...
A lot is made about the heat walking out to Ram Head. I actually think going out around 5 pm and watching the sunset is the coolest time to go. We had headlamps for our return trip. Good thing too, because the Full Moon was obstructed with some cloud for a good portion of the walk. I've never been able to get out there for sunrise, but I bet that's a great time too.

We did the hike around 3pm...it was hot but we each had water so it wasn't terrible.

We even encountered a Ram!

Oh great. You'll go with this Stephanie person from wherever and fret about being dismembered, but you wouldn't join us wholesome Vermonters this March? I'm hurt. Lovermont is too nice to say so. Not that we are touchy or anything but as Kermit said, "It's not easy being green." :)

Well. . . Did you make it back?. . . or is there a bloody crime scene at Ramshead. Hope you had a good time. Husband loved it. I could never make it, so I live vicariously through those who do.

Wow, I did not get any "topic reply notifications" on this post.
Sorry guys, I would have said this sooner:
THANKS for all the fun + helpful + frightening replies.

I saw Stephanie, aka Sun4MySoul, today.
She told me we won't be hiking if it is overcast.
Guess she needs some light to properly dismember me.

I think it's pretty accurate to say that I live life "on the edge",
but I will go nowhere near the edge on this hike.
Thank for the 'heads up' Lovermont.
I shall do my best to keep my head up...
