New Horizons II or public ferry for BVI trip

Post by kristen1206 »

Next decision is the best way to get to Jost. New Horizons II looks good because we also get to see The Baths and Marina Cay. But I am concerned we may not have enough time on Jost?

If we do the ferry, do you need to take a cab to White Bay?

Thanks in advance (and hopefully this should be my last question for the day!)

Taking the public ferry to JVD runs ~60/pp, if I remember correctly. You will pay another 5/pp per way to White Bay. So, right there you are at 70/pp. I believe NH is around 140/pp.

Taking the ferry will get you to Soggy Dollar right around 10 AM. You will then need to leave around 245 to make it back to the ferry. So thats a good 4.5 hours of fun on JVD.

With NH, you will get 90 minutes at most. However, you also get the experience of seeing the Baths, lunching on a 6 acre island, and snorkeling. To me, all of these combined are better than just sitting on White Bay boozing.

It all depends on your group. If you are young party animals, spending the entire day on JVD may be your thing. If you want to explore a bit more, I would go with NH.

Kristen - trust me, there is not such thing as too many questions on this forum.

I agree with stltimmy's information and will add that the crowd on JVD would also influence my feelings.

I think White Bay is getting more and more popular. It was down right crowded our last two or three visits (Feb). If it was empty and quiet, maybe I could see spending 4 hours there but an hour or two was plenty for us during our last two or three visits. At the Soggy Dollar, all the chairs both around the bar and on the beach were taken and it just wasn't that relaxing.

I have no idea why we didn't just walk down the beach to another place. Habit I guess.

We did the New Horizons II trip last year and had a blast. Soggy Dollar is awesome, and with NH we felt like we had enough time there. The bonus was getting to hit the other places they go. If you haven't done the other places, then I'd say do NH.

Just to throw another choice into the mix, we were planning on going with NH II for the Baths and Jost, then hooked up with Pia, who made arrangements for us to do the trip on Bad Kitty. The biggest reason was that when she called NH, they wouldn't tell her if it would be NH that would make the trip, or one of the other boats they have (there are 3, apparently).

We had a blast on Bad Kitty, couldn't have asked for more from the crew who made sure we all had fun, had a great lunch on Cooper Island, and even made some friends that we ended up having to the villa for dinner, and met at the beach the next day!

I figured Pia is pretty good at this stuff, and she was dead on for this trip. Just something to consider!

Have fun, whatever you do!

We went on Bad Kitty last yr and while I cant say enough good things about the crew...they were super!!!... But we felt like we were rushed as far as seeing everything. I didnt we think had enough time at each stop. Although we did go to the Baths, snorkeled the Indians, ate lunch at Pirates Bight, and then on to Soggy Dollar. (We did get to do alittle bit of shopping on Virgin Gorda while we were checked in at Customs, first thing)..The whole trip was a bit rushed I thought..We felt like we were being hurried thru things even the snorkeling..I wish we had just taken one that didnt not try to stop so many places in one day...It was nice to be on the water and see things from a different perspective though. Im not trying to slam them at all...It just wasnt my as good as I had thought it would be...
