my friend needs winter villa help.
My friend who would be a newbee to STJ has a few villa questions and since I stayed at Caneel in the June I'm not much help. But I know you guys are a wealth of info. She is looking to go in Nov/Dec, would like AC, a nice kitchen and nice pool/outdoor area with good views. There would be 4 of them, and are willing to spend up to 5k for a week. She's spoken to some rental lady who told her Nov was the rainiest month and certain parts of the island were more buggy and stormy then. And I not sure how much of that is true since we went in the summer. Any villa suggestions or other info that you think would help them would be appreciated. Thanks
you may not need AC during that time --just fans --i am not sure what your friend are looking for but bo atabey or reef madness might fit their bill ( i ahve never been in reef madness, but people say it's great--I have beeen in bo atabey and it is really sweet!)
also, a bit of a crazy drive is fair winds and following seas--this arrangement allows for tow couples to live apart unless they decide otherwise

< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
I don't believe that November is the rainiest month. My group has gone the last 3 years and had only a few intermittent showers each time - mostly the typical tropical afternoon rain. Nothing that kept us from enjoying our trips. We have usually been able to use ceiling fans only - it depends on whether our villa faces the best direction to get the night breeze. I think November is a fabulous time to visit - after hurricane season, but before the high season. Your friends will be able to find some very nice villas in their price range during that time.

It was hard to find, but I was curious and I finally found it on weather.com: The most precipitation on average occurs in November. September was second, October third. So fall is the rainy season.

Rainfall can be a tricky thing. We usually don't have a full day of rain, and if we do, it tends not to be a down pour. BUT, if it does rain hard for a full day, or a few days, we can get a TON of rain in a very short period of time. So it might be beautiful for 27 days of the month, but in three days we can get a ton of rain. In the 11 years since I've lived here I remember October and November to have the most rain. It is just so hard to predict. Back in mid November of 2003 we had an obscene amount of rain, and that was the worst I can remember. We had almost 19 inches of rain (on St. John) in November of 2003. In November of 2009 we had about 5.3 inches...so you can see what I mean, it's just hard to say what is going to happen.
I recommend Reef Madness - great villa and I loved staying in Coral Bay.
However, if you think they'd prefer to be closer to town, I've also stayed at and loved:
Bongo Bongo - http://www.carefreegetaways.com/bongo_bongo.htm
Two equal master suites, pool, hot tub, great 'open air' feel. Only negative is it can be a bit warm in the later afternoon but that would either be pool time for us or happy hour in town.

Not as new but amazing views and private bedrooms. The lower bedroom doesn't have as nice of views as upstairs but we really enjoyed our time here too.
Good luck to your friends.

Sea Forever was nice and had air conditioned bedrooms but I am not sure about the living area. Great view.
