Anyone sailed with Scubadu?

Post by Lindy »

Our group is considering an excursion on this catamaran for our November trip. Has anyone from the forum sailed with them? They've suggested Whistling Cay and Congo Cay for snorkeling - good choices?? Or are there better spots? We've already snorkeled the Indians and want to try to hit as many snorkel spots and water access beaches as we can in one day so don't want to have to travel too far. How about the food? The menu sounds great - any comments on that?

We know we can count on the people here for useful feedback!

We sailed with Joe a few times to JVD a few years ago- although I heard he doesn't got to BVI for day sails anymore. We didn't do any snorkeling, but Joe and Scubadu were great. Loved the food- had a great time. Nice boat. Have a great Christmas card shot of my kids on Scubadu!

Whistling and Congo Cays are excellent snorkeling sites barring any N.Swell or full moon current. Very natural, good variety of coral, sponges and fish - generally 18' or less deep.
Scubadu is a well run, well kept vessel - it seems that they tend to motor or motorsail to cover more ground -
---- they do a fine job if you listen to the Red Hook Scuttlebutt.
edited: I meant that as a compliment.

Joe Mellen and Scubadu are EXCELLENT!! WE sailed with him in 2008 and enjoyed every minute!! He very laid back and we snorkeled Congo and near Waterlemon. Lunch was fantastic and he and his mate were very accomodating! I would book him again in a heartbeat! Enjoy!

It is a very nice boat, spacious, clean, comfortable. We liked lounging on the net.

We sail every year with Captain Joe aboard the Scubadu. He is well worth it. He'll take you to great spots to snorkel. The best part is his cooking for lunch. I highly recommend the fish tacos!!! Yummm :D

I highly recommend Joe and Brenda at Scubadu. Although we did not use them for a snorkel excursion, we chartered their boat a few weeks ago for our post wedding sunset dinner cruise. It was as it we were with family. Their hospitality was like no other, let alone the meal Joe cooked. Absolutely amazing. Book it dano !!
