Almost beyond belief!

Post by JT »

I just came back from the Nationals game and Stephen Strasburg's major league debut. I've been a baseball junkie my entire life and I gotta say I've never been more blown away by anyone's debut performance like I was tonight by this kid.He pitched 7 innings, won 5-2, set a Nationals record by striking out 14 batters, walking none, hit 100 mph on the radar gun and struck out every player in the Pirates line-up at least once. Even more impressive then his speed is his curve ball which I'm sure had a few opposing batters talking to themselves. This kid was just awesome!

They covered him on the national news last night. I hope he keeps it together, mucho pressure.

The Braves have one too, Jason Heyward I believe. He's the 2nd coming of Hank Aaron. I hate the press

I was just hearing some of it on the news this morning on CBS radio. SO exciting! Glad you were there for it.
Good luck to him!

He played his last minor league game for the Syracuse Chiefs up in Buffalo last week-he kept rifling the 99mph, people kept wondering if the gun/board just wouldn't register 3 digits  wow!

Let's hope that's not true! The Mets just chose with their first round pick, the son of my HS baseball coach, Matt Harvey. Matt is the ace of the Carolina staff. He's a 6'5" 225 righthander with a fastball in the mid 90's, and a 12 to 6 breaking ball. During his senior year of HS, he was a more highly regarded prospect than Rick Porcello of New Jersey, who now pitches for the Detroit Tigers. He was drafted in the third round that year by the Angels, but elected to go to Carolina instead. Good move by him, turning himself into the #7 pick in the draft by the Mets this week. The kid is a lifelong Yankee fan, so it's time for him to trade in his pinstripes!

Matt was about 6 years old during my senior year in HS (1995). He was always running around with the team. We used to stuff him in the locker - I'm 6'1", and now he towers over me!

I think your team got a good one NYEStreet. Nobody will work harder to make it to CITIField.

JT - I was at the game last night also. What a great night for baseball in Washington. The atmosphere was absolutely electric and I can honestly say that was the most exciting game I've attended in many years. The kid had a lot to live up to with the hype and the media spotlight, and he blew everyone away with his poise. As an old Senators fan I'm psyched to hear so many people in DC talking about baseball again...

Oh, forgot to add my .02 on Stephen Strasburg:

Finally, somebody has brought real Hope & Change to Washington.

C'mon now - that's funny!

I'm not a hockey guy, Loria. But I do know Alexander Ovechkin and Sydney Crosby are the two best players in the world - and that the Boston Bruins...suck.

sox-

I was with you on the Hope & Change giggle but then you had to go pick on the Bruins! WTF! It's not their fault. The owner sucks!

Lysa - As bad an owner as Jeremy Jacobs is, he didn't blow a 3-0 series lead to the Flyers!

But you're right, in a city FILLED with great owners (Patriots - Kraft, Celtics - Wyc, Sox - John Henry), Jacobs is terrible. Just terrible.
