John Friends and a new CHARITY

Post by Barbara »

To all John Friends and St. John Friends!

Good news! For those of you that want to give one last tribute to our Mr. B we have another alternative.

John and Amy loved St. John and visited whenever they could. John was a frequent voice on our Forum. But John lost his battle with cancer on June 2. HOWEVER! John does not have to be forgotten. We can remember him through our gifts.

Amy listed 3 charities for making a contribution in John's name. BUT we have a 4th and even better one!

In the next few days we will give you a separate link that will lead you to a page on the website for the Animal Care Center of St. John. There we are setting up a way for you to give to the shelter in John's name. He loved pets, and he loved St. John. You can dedicate a contribution to him and have your name (not the amount) appear on the page. We hope to be able to indicate that you are a member of VIOL as well. Isn't this great?

So send me an email if you have questions. This is STJ Ruth's idea. Good one! But I will be glad to answer any questions or take suggestions. Give us a few days to get that link to you. This is for you, John!

Let's not forget the other charities mentioned before. Here are the first three that Amy suggested.

The V Foundation (For gastric Cancer research)
http://www.gastriccancer.org/html/donate.html
Gastric Cancer Fund
106 Towerview Court
Cary, NC 27513

The ASPCA (he loved animals of course)

American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

New York, NY 10128

Penn Environment
1420 Walnut Street
Suite 650
Philadelphia, PA 19102

I think that's great. I went on that site and didn't see any way to leave a gift "In Memoriam".
Ruth, if you have taken the reigns to work with ACC on this, thanks!
And thanks to you Barb for getting the word out.

Ruth is working with ACC of St. John right now. We will have a link for you soon. We wanted to make sure Amy okayed this. Then we wanted to work with the webdude of ACC of St. John to make a special place for John and of course, John Friends. Yes, that is our new title. We are officially John Friends.

Oh that is a GREAT idea! I will get Ruth to ask the webdude about that. It would be great to know how much as a group we contribute. Then we could say "See John? Buddy, just for you!" I like it.

sorry to keep posting about this but.....

for those who were trying to collect USVI quarters maybe this is a chance to cash them in. I know they were scarce but I did collect 2 or 3 while on island and oddly enough my father in law got 6 in one day on Staten Island!
I had planned to attach a dollar amount per quarter collected. Say a $5 or $10 spot for each quarter. Just a thought.

Barbara, thank you for this information. I'm looking forward to the link. I just looked at the Tribute to John thread and loved all the posts. (It's been too long since I had been on the forum.)

So glad you are back! You came back at a good time. And a bad time. The bad of course is that God decided to take John last week to Heaven. I hope they are prepared for what rewiring he is gonna do. He was the most wired dude I ever knew. The good news is that we are planning a Halloween Party. I am hoping that Amy will have John's ashes there by then. If not, soon. We will be celebrating John. And we will be celebrating us! We are the John Friends. Heck, you don't have to be a John Friend. You just have to show up and hang out. Cuz we are gonna do some substantial hangin out.

Great cause that I already support so have no problem with sending another donation their way. So glad to hear of so much support of both John and the organization. Thanks Barb & Ruth. Ali~
