hale lani, calicaribe, other villa rec

Post by papabou »

bride & i looking to come back to stj with a newbie couple 8/1 to 8/8. while all in good health and no mobility issues aver age over 67 & would prefer great room pool & 2 masters with ac on same level. must haves: pool, ac in bedrooms with kings or twins (old folks get in each others way in smaller beds), great water & sunset or sunrise views. we like gifft hill & mt bordeaux but want to stay closer to cruz bay this trip for newbie convenience. were planning for just me & bride and would have gone back to ajax, maggie, bordeaux area for n shore beach convenience. have stayed at nautilus on maria bluff 3 times and love view, breezes & location on but no pool.

any thoughts/comments on calicaribe and hale lani or similar villas in those areas. also looking at allesandra & maybe others in upper rockridge rd area but would like $3000 max price range. dates are not flexible except could be 7/31 to 8/7 or shortened to 6 days but sure hate stt airport on sat.

as always thanks for the help.

mary beth?
thanks for promp response.

yes noticed good rates and with rates and web site info she's at top of list. older reviews are mixed though and looking for some recent experience. rented through dsj couple of times and good exp.

as reminder, we are last minute travlers who fly space available so won't book till late july so need several options since some will rent before we pull trigger.

have not stayed there so I can't help but at that price I'd be willing to take a chance.

Allesandra is a good choice. The views are the best I have experienced for that side of the rock. Maybe look at Bongo Bongo. I think those beds are queens though.

I stayed at Hale Lani in 2008 and loved it. Views were killer and floor plan meets your requirements.

I know you like Cloud Nine and it is every bit as nice in my opinion.

mb, you're lady after my heart as you know i love a bargain, thus hale lani is top of list but have to have backups.

jorge, allesandra has been on my list for long time but never able to go for extra bucks she demands over my normal budget. the views are to die for as i have observed from just above allesandra at temptrss & treasure ridge where we have stayed. hoping for a last minute or senior citizen discount.

agirl, yes we love cloud 9, little tired like us but comfortable as an old shoe, always discounted, killer views and all one level. if hale lani is at least equivalent to c9 as far as comfort, upkeep, equipment and supplies, then she stays at top of my list. hell we don't do luxury and close as i've been to on stj is casa bueno where as 1st renters last summer got her for $250 a day incuding tax for 4! that was luxury at a bargain.

thanks again everyone.

If you liked the view from Nautilus, look into Spendore which is just across the street, one tier up, as I recall. Think it might be a few $ over your budget but gets great reviews.

thanks knolmom, splendore made my month water when i saw her. while she might be a little "over the top" for us ga boys, rates look reasonable and she has every main feature i'm looking for. unfortunately she's not available the week of our trip.

The bedrooms at Calicaribe are NOT equal. There are two bedrooms on the main pool level, but one is a true master and the other is a very small room. I planned the trip and my friends were disappointed with how uneven the accommodations were.

alw, thanks for info, i'd missed that in my zest to get everything on 1 level. looks like only a queen bed too which bride would never agree to. another instance of a formite save as calacaribe bites the dust.

i recall maybe you had a career change due the ga real estate crash (&maybe a family addition). hope both are working out. bride & i had grandkids for 4 days last week and eventhough they are somewhat self sufficient at 10 & 12, we were whipped when they left yesterday.

peace and i'm still looking and since many formites have gone to work this morning, i expect more feed-back.

Maybe not the location that you were shooting for, but we stayed at Second Wind in Reef Bay and the lay out was awesome. All bedrooms are very equal and private. The covered deck was awesome and it has a pool and hot tub.

The online pics do not do it justice. And it is not that popular, so you can usually get a good deal.

Bongo Bongo? Base price is over your budget, but if you can get a discount, it might fit.
