Just booked a day sail around STJ with Capt. Phil on Monday 8/2. Me, S/O and our newbie friends,Pat and Ron. He will probably add one more couple to our sail - anyone game???

Don't worry, if he doesn't get a full boat, he sails anyway! We had a lovely day out with him and just one other couple. :)

We sailed with Captain Phil, Loria, Mr. Loria and another couple last Friday. It was a great day including two eagle rays.

Does Wayward Sailor serve rum punch or painkillers or any mixed drinks? Or is beer, water, and soda the only beverages?

We're going out on trip #2 in July with Capt Phil.

When we last went, only water, soda and beer.
For anyone who's gone out before: We're booked for the JVD trip, but I'm thinking about changing to the 2 snorkel trip again. Does anyone have an opinion???

Will your crew enjoy the boat and the snorkelling? I am thinking your little girl might love it and therefore would vote for the two stopper over Jost.

Maybe I am burned out on White Bay but I think it is getting too popular for its own good. Our past three visits were very crowded. It was high season and the cruise sheeples added to the crowds.

(I have zero problem taking my kid to bars while on vacation so kid-at-bars or not does not influence my vote.)

It's not a bar thing...more of a "what if the wind doesn't cooperate and we spent too long slogging our way to JVD and "miss out" on time on an island I REALLY want to explore some day"

I think we go for the 2 stop trip. We loved it in 2008

Pip, we are taking newbies with us in July. I booked the 2 stop sail around STJ for the day. We've done Jost and although it was fun, not much time there because of the long sail to and from. Just time for lunch and a walk about with Phil and Tarn. I think the newbies will enjoy the more relaxed snorkeling around the island.

Very valid point. That happened to us in 2005 (different boat) and the captain needed to motor (and complain) the entire trip to Jost and back. It was a very expensive, slow taxi ride to stand in line with 200 other people to get a drink.

I am trying to convince Husband that a Capt Phil trip would be good way to get the 4 yo snorkelling. Husband does not agree.[/b]

This is not a male solidarity thing (Fist bump), but I may agree with your husband. Jumping off a boat to snorkel is a lot different than wading in from the beach. Has the little guy puttered around in a pool with one on before? Of course, you'll have him wrapped up like Randy in A Christmas Story you'll have him encased in so many floatie-things, but I'd still be inclined to start from the beach.

Just my un-asked-for $.02

then again, if you're going to do a jump off the boat first snorkel trip, I can't think of anyone better to lead the little guy on his first trip. Cap'n Phil will take great care of him.

Oh you men are always sticking together! I don't discount the fears but I am 100% with this -

He can swim underwater and is comfortable with his mask and we are working on adding the snorkel between now and then.

If I can get him swimming comfortably with the snorkel and mask prior to STJ, I am going to revisit the trip with Husband.

The little guy reacts very well to the type of educational and this-is-how-we-do-it approach that Capt Phil has. I think he would do exactly what Capt Phil tells him to do and he would learn a lot.
