Newbie Trip Report Part Six

Post by poolmom »

Thursday we got up pretty early to get ready to go to Vie's Beach. We were meeting some of our new friends off the forum. She opens her beach about 10:00. We got there about 11:00 and saw Trvl John in the parking lot. So we paid our $2.50 each to go and she supplies the chairs. She has a food stand there with drinks if you need anything. I had packed our rolling cooler with sandwiches, beer and a large batch of painkillers(with fresh nutmeg) a must. We followed John down and his wife Karen had a great spot picked out under the seagrape trees. We gathered up some chairs in the shade and settled in for the day. I cannot tell you just how beautiful this place was. Poured us a painkiller and chilled out for a while. A couple more friends showed up about an hour later. Steph and Butch were alot of fun. Steph knows alot about the island and is very willing to help you with directions on where to go and fun things to do. This was one of my favorite days. The weather was incredible that day. John sent a picture post that day of Vie's beach. We did snorkel here. They all got a kick out of my trashbag and duct tape. Swam out pretty far with help of my float for my arm. Not pretty but it worked. Pretty good snorkeling here. Back to the beach for lunch and another drink. Re applyed sunblock twice and still got too much sun. There was two other people from the forum that sat with us but I don't remember their names, sorry. I shared my painkillers with one of them. She had never had one. Glad I could do my part. We were all out in the water just hanging out cooling off. There was a newlywed couple near us swimming and all of the sudden the guy noticed that he had lost his wedding band :o . We all stopped what we were doing and gathered around and got our snorkeling mask and put on a search. No luck. To say the least she was not very happy with him. They had only been married four days. I felt sorry for him. We tried to help. It was getting late so we packed up and we drove back to Cruz Bay. We were zapped. We stayed in for dinner and ate leftovers. It was an early evening. We had a boat trip scheduled for the next morning in Coral Bay. Off to bed.

Sounds like a great day.

I lost my ring snokeling in Mexico. Should have been a sign of things to come in that marriage, but that's a story for another time.

I saw it fall off and watched it fall 25-30 feet to the ocean floor.

I lost my wedding band in Hawaii four days after our marriage as well. We were on a snorkeling trip to Lanai from Maui. The boat had a photographer on board to take underwater pics and sell the shots (This was 1987 and not everybody had fancy cameras like they do now). We had become friendly with him on the way over after learning he had spent some time at Emory Univ in Atlanta (our home town). So, after losing and not being able to find the band, he offered to bring his metal detector out the next day since he would be out there again. Next afternoon we got back to our hotel room and had a message he had found the ring. Took him and his girlfriend out for a nice dinner.

So I feel bad for the newlywed. I know the feeling.

I hope the couple left their contact info with Vie b/c on our last trip at Vies my son found a wedding ring while snorkeling there and we went to give it to Vie. In turn, she gave us the couples phone # and I contacted them and mailed the ring to them once we got home. :D

I think they did say something to her. We told them to leave their # just in case.
