Sangria Recipes
I am hoping to make some yummy sangria this weekend - anyone have a good recipe to share? I am leaning towards red wine vs. white. I am wondering if it can be left at room temperature and served with ice like I often see it at italian restaurants. Thanks!

My secret sangria recipe has a nice dose of RUM in it - what else? Orange juice, soda water, red wine in about equal parts (something sturdy and fruity like a Zinfandel) - orange and apple chunks, maybe a squeeze of lime, couple of tablespoons of sugar, and few good shots of rum, and a lot of ice. But if you leave it out it get watered down...

I usually use Martha Stewart's recipe:

I cut the sugar to 1/3-1/2 cup depending on how sweet the fruit is. You can leave this at room temperature and the recipe can be mutiplied as many times as you want. If you have the time to macerate the fruit overnight it does make a noticable difference in the flavor.
Now I want some sangria.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Me too with the rum – the citrus flavored Cruzan. Triple sec too. It the zinfandels are too heavy for you, the 1.5L of Bolla Valpolicella makes a tasty and good price base. The “lemon essence” Poland Spring sparkling water is a good “soda water” to add. Both green and red apples sliced real thin are favs too.

I've put rum in my red sangria for years.
Big glass:
Ice, About 2/3 of the way with cheap-ass red wine, Fill just about the rest of the way with OJ, add about a shot of rum, and some lime juice.
Drink too much...pass the hell out.
white Sangria:
Big Glass:
Ice, About 2/3 of the way with cheap-ass white wine. Fill just about the rest of the way with white grape juice, add about a shot of peach schnapps.
Drink too much...pass the hell out.
I've made nice white with a good sauvignon blanc, but lately, I'm just a wineaux and use $3 Chuck.

I've used this one from Williams Sonoma many times. All who have tried it liked it.
Ingredients:
1 bottle (750ml) fruity, dry red wine
1/4 cup brandy
2 Tbs. sugar
2 lemons, thinly sliced
2 oranges, thinly sliced
3 cups sparkling water
Ice cubes as needed
Directions:
In a large pitcher, combine the wine, brandy, sugar, lemons and oranges and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add the sparkling water and stir to blend. Fill 4 glasses with ice and pour the sangria into the glasses. Serve immediately.

Sangria is perfect on a hot summer day. I had delicious red sangria at Plancha del Mar in April. I could have finished off the entire pitcher by myself. If anyone has their recipe, I'd like to have it.

ditto! I suggested to the On St. John guys that they should try and acquire this on video. so far nadapjayer wrote:Sangria is perfect on a hot summer day.
