Tess' Dad wrote:I just checked my rum cabinet and I have a few to add to the list. Barcelo Imperial from The Dominican Republic. Matsusalem and Zacapa from Guatemala. Pampero from Venezuela. And most important, Zaya. Zaya is now made in Trinidad, but I still have two bottles from their original distillery in Guatemala. Zaya is the most amazing liquor on the planet. Cruzan used to make a 5 year rum called Estate Diamond. It was the best value, period. When I found out they were stopping production, I cleaned out the North Eastern United States. Twenty three beautiful bottles. Yep, 23!
Yep, Zaya and Zacapa are made by the same company, Zaya is 15 year and Zacapa 23 year.....have never had the Zaya, but I'm told its awesome....

But.....23 bottles of 5 year Cruzan! I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy!!! :D

When we were on St. Croix last month we heard rumors that The Nelthropps are working on an 8 Year (yay) to bridge the 2 Year to the Single Barrel as the 5 Year has been discontinued (booo) and is sorely missed.

Can't wait.

Hey surfnh,

The Zacapa 23 isn't really a 23 year old rum. The "Solera" method they use is alot like cheating. They take some old rum and mix it with new rum and rack it. After some aging they take some out and mix it with new rum and rack it again. The process is repeated until some of the original rum is 23 years old. The rum is excellent. But a bit misleading.

Great news about the 8 year rum. Curious about the cost. Most of my Estate Diamond 5 year was less than $12.
