living on St. John
So, just wondering
where do most of the locals live on St. John. I know how expensive housing is. Are a lot of folks apartment dwellers and if so which ones and where are they and how much is rent?

There is a website called vimovingcenter.com that deals with the kind of questions you are posing very well - you should also check there - the large majority of respondents on this forum are visitors to STJ and often have little experience with daily living here.
There are generally apartments available on STJ but not Apt. buildings as you may be used to - most homes have an apt. built into the main house because of the cistern construction designs.
Connections in STJ has the biggest and most used bulletin board that has housing ads.

We live all over the place- nice houses, "non-conforming" houses, boats, apartments, etc. People who were here before the cost of land sky-rocketed live in very modest homes that are often next door to rather expensive villas. Many people built homes with a rental unit underneath. It helps pay the mortgage! The cost of a rental varies- as does the quality of the home/apartment. I have friends who move about frequently- house sitting, living in construction sites, or just hanging. Island life is not easy or cheap but if you are flexible and not picky you can do it!
