Lexington's not a huge city, but it has some nice restaurants. A couple of our favorite restaurants are Malone's Steakhouse on Tates Creek Road and Jonathan's at Gratz Park Inn. Azur in Beaumont Center gets good reviews, but I've never been there. A La Lucie's on North Limestone is a very nice little restaurant, too.

If you have time, you might consider a tour of a local distillery. Woodford Reserve is about 20 to 30 minutes from downtown Lexington. It's a small distillery located in Woodford County. The tour takes about 45 minutes. If you go in the morning, you could have lunch there, also.

There's a small town called Midway about 20 miles from Lexington. It has some nice specialty shops and good restaurants. We like Heirloom and Holly Hill Inn. Holly Hill Inn specializes in local foods and their menu changes from month to month. Darlin Jeans is located in an old train station and is a great place for lunch.

We usually shop at Fayette Mall and Hamburg Place. There are some smaller stores in downtown Lexington, as well.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Kentucky. It's been rainy this week, but the weather is supposed to improve Saturday. If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help.

What brings you here? Are you flying into LEX?

Pjayer has given you good information! She's listed the best restaurants in the area, and visiting a distillery would be fun as well! I'm not sure where you're staying, but Malone's has expanded to 3 in town. http://bluegrasshospitality.com/ Regatta (a seafood restaurant) is owned by one of the owners of Malones too. They usually have live music, and can be alot of fun.
Holly Hill Inn is always a favorite http://www.hollyhillinn.com/
What kind of shopping are you looking for?
If you were here a few weeks earlier I would have highly recommended going to Keeneland! Pm me if you want more info!

Y'all are the BEST! Just the kind of info I need. We are staying at the Doubletree In Hamburg area? My husband is doing a medical training deal and I'll be free to scope it all out each day. Can't wait. I'm going to need a break after all this graduation stuff this week! It has been a tough week let me tell you!

This place is kind of "old school," but I really loved having dinner there:

We also love the Kentucky Horse Park. But, we are horse people who own and ride, so I don't know if this would be of interest to you.

I do think the Kentucky Horse Park is great for visitors. I've been so many times on field trips that I forget to mention things like that. Vicki's suggestion of Murray's or Merrick Inn is great! They both have nice patios if the weather cooperates too!
