"Real Housewives of New York" on St John

Post by lprof »

Looks like some of tonight's show, Episode 9, was filmed last fall on St John.

It will be funny to watch all the newbies showing up on the island in sequins and glitter after viewing this episode.

Ugh. I might force myself to watch it with the volume off. Only seeing the beauty of STJ would warrant suffering through that mess.

Thanks for the reminder lprof...I'm out tonight but I've got our TIVO ready. I'll admit it...I enjoy watching the Real Housewives.

We will have to watch to see what we missed last November. We were planning on spending a quiet day on Gibney when the film/location crew showed up around 11:00. They did not care that they were practically standing on top of us but politely told us to expect to be surrounded by 100 people within an hour. Rather than waste a minute of our precious vacation time caught up in the hoopla, we packed up and headed to Maho.

 :?: :?

Well........ nothing on last night's show aired by Bravo on Cox Cable in my town was filmed on St John or at the Presidio Del Mar - the only reason I have been tuning in each week.

I apologise for all the fuss made.

For now, I'm getting my fix with augie's TGIF pic and watching my favorite video of the villa.

No problem lprof. I watched and enjoyed Alex's nessage for Jill.

Its odd, though, the trailer for next week's show didn't show STJ but last week's trailer did.

I too had a run in with the Housewives. My husband and I went out to eat at La Tapa (a real treat for us). We sat at the bar and were having a lovely dinner when we were told the Housewives were coming in. The camera, sound, and lighting crews were hanging around, and the reservation time for the ladies had come and long past (2.5 hours past) before they showed up. We were getting ready to have dessert and we were asked to MOVE from where we were so one of the crew could take our spot. My usually very pleasant husband kind of freaked out. I can't say I really blame him, but I am one to avoid confrontation at almost any cost. The bartender was super nice about it and told us under no circumstances are we to move until we were good and ready. Alex came out and talked to my husband and I and although this would be great exposure for her place, she said that she would ask them to leave. I insisted that it wasn't necessary and we would leave. So, just as they were getting comfortable at their table, we left. My husband is native West Indian, and sometimes he gets to feeling that his home is less and less for him and only for tourists.... I have to give Alex a ton of credit for handling the situation like she did. I left there knowing that Alex would put her customers happiness before her own personal gain, and that is saying a lot.

A note on the housewives though.... I thought they were much prettier in person than they are on tv, even if they were waaaaaaayyyyy too made up for St. John!

This whole "Housewives" phenomenon really perplexes me. They realize we're laughing AT them right? Are they so hungry for attention they are willing to humiliated like that? Are they familiar with the concept of self respect? Appearance is everything to these women, yet the program portrays them in a very unflattering light. The "Housewives" on the Island seems like oil and water to me-they don't jive.
