Pre-paid cell phone

Post by Love De Islands »

Will a pre-paid cell phone, such as a Trac Phone work on STT? What do you all do for phone communication?

We are in St Thomas/St john once or twice a year.We are verizon at home, They have no coverage in the islands. Att & sprint\nextel have towers down there (Pureto rico, Att won't let you buy a disposable phone unless you are an ATT Bla Bla Bla for 6 months, Verizon charges $1.99 minute! ... after last year and business needed attention & cost me $600+ (ouch) for 2 weeks. I bought a phone from boost (nextel/ sprint} cost me $90 for phone and 10 cents a minute.... I put $10 at at a time and it only cost me 30 bucks business this last vaca....and now I have a permanent ST John Phone number!!!! How cool is that

dctac, we are also verizon and spent a fortune on our last trip because of a medical emergency involving one of our kids back home. First, coordinating things to make sure everything was taken care of, and then for my wife to talk about it to all of her friends. LOL. Make sure I understand correctly. You bought the phone from boost after you arrived on St. John? I assume that's the case since you have a St. John number. That sounds like a good idea.

Sprint 30 day trial

Post by Pote »

Sprint has a 30 trial. If you are not completely satisfied, bring it back/turn it off. You'll probably be out the setup fee and prorated usage, but no 1 year contract or anything.

AT&T will do the same thing.

From earlier posts, I thought the AT&T Go Phone seemed like one of the best choices for cellular service in the USVI.

They have a number of different plans, some of which only charge if you use the phone.

We're planning on using the Go Phone on our next visit.

For $35, you can get a refurb phone and 100 minutes.

GoPhone

For $20 more you you can get a new phone with 60 bonus minutes.

boost phone

Post by dctac »

We picked our St John number from NJ! Tell the person Tell the person you want the phone to use on vaca in the islands and I think you can get a number in STT STX STJ or P Rico.I have to say I'm stoked to own the little piece on St john I own ( a area code!) but it's kinda cool when they ask for your number on island and we give em a local number, It was well worth the 80 bucks for the phone, I still call my wife once in a while on it for fun.( and will use it next feb...............

Virgin Mobile works on STT, but not in Coral Bay in STJ. It works great in Cruz bay.

Love De Islands,
Island Girl & I both have Trac Phones that we take with us to the islands...the only problems that we had were certain spots going through the mountains and a spot by Maho...other than that, it was like talking to the neighbor , real clear , no static. On our way over to and on island, we noticed some folks having problems .
Some were getting charged x-tra or double connecting fees and some were losing their signal or not getting one at all. I also bought a Double minute card for each phone ,it is a one time purchase and last for as long as you own that phone. If you purchase minutes on-line , you can find codes on the internet that will give you x-tra free minutes.

(Also..I bought one phone for 8$ and the other for 13$)

Buy one. Load it with minutes, go. I don't think there are any time restrictions except the expiration time for your minutes-

$15 --- 30 days
$25 --- 90 days
$50 --- 90 days
$60 --- 90 days
$100 --- 365 days

Also-

Pay As You Go accounts will be canceled 60 days after expiration.

If your account expires, your number expires, and you might as well buy a new phone because the buying a new sim and activating it costs about the same (from experience :) )
