Sorry to hear about your arm. I work at a orthopedic office and all these suggestions are good. There are a few things I was going to add. The waterproof casting material is very expensive (in comparison the the regular type) and so it might be better for you to order a box and bring it to your ortho. office if they don't supply it....if you bring it to them they should be happy to use it, but if you rely on them to get it, you might be out of luck. But just call and talk with them....I'm sure they'll work something out. However just know these cast tend to get a bit more stinky than the normal so bring something to combat this. Also they make waterproof sleeves like some people were talking about...but make sure you get the pool/waterproof sleeves like drycorp.com, not the cheap shower sleeves. The pool sleeves are good...but most people say only stay in the water 30-45 min's at a time or they begin to leak....don't ask me why, just what I've been told by people that have used them. Hope this all helps...you'll have a great time in STJ!!

I was still thinking about you and your arm this morning, so I looked around online. This looks like an option, if you really want to me immersed in water: http://www.drycorp.com/content/cast-ban ... index.html It's the same company that Maggy mentioned.
It may not bother you at all, to not be in the water. You only mention that you want to be in a dinghy. Just in case, though, if you decide to get in the water with any kind of contraption, be sure you know what to do if you accidentally get soaked.
Again, thank goodness you're otherwise uninjured, and have fun on vacation!

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. If you have your passport, I'd highly suggest taking the ferry over to Jost for a day then taking a cab to White Bay and spending the day at Soggy Dollar. You can pull your chair up into the water and have very easy access to food and drink for the whole day. That's always one of our favorite days.
Also-I always take a cheap, flat blow up raft for St. John. However, if I was in your situation, I'd buy a nicer blow up raft with arms on it so you could sit up higher in the water and keep your arm supported. We use those in our pool at home. Also, what about buying one of those kid blowup things that has the clear window to look through at the water below. At Maho and Francis both, you could get a small taste of snorkeling with taking that raft, and having your arm propped on it and looking through that window. The rocks close to shore on Francis have fish around them and you wouldn't have to swim, just walk out a bit, same on both sides of Maho and even at Hawksnest. The water would need to be calm at Hawksnest, but it's almost always that way at Maho and Francis so no need to worry about getting knocked off your feet!
Just some ideas and I hope your trip is wonderful!!

I dunno about the dinghy.
Just so easy to picture someone trying to get out of it with one broken arm and ending up with 2!
If it was me - I would have to go anyway because I've never bought travel insurance
but if given the choice, I would try to postpone.
The cast is going to be vvery hot down there.

The kayak ideal sounds great, but getting my boyfriend to do all the work.Who knows.I did splurge and called Rachel to pick us up at the airport.I thought one of the shuttles may be a little much after a long day.I'm having to adjust to little changes. Ready for a Painkiller
2 weeks from today,in paradise!
