We made it!
Just a quick update to let you all know how the trip is going so far. Hubby is on my case to head out to Salt Pond today because we are getting a late start.
We woke up at 4:00 am on Tuesday to catch our 7:00 am flight from DFW. After an aborted take off we ended up missing our connection in MIA for STT. We changed our flight from DFW to a different one to MIA and somehow Renee with AA booked us on the totally sold out 5:10 STT flight from MIA. Wow. I was in tears. We almost didnt make it on Tuesday. We didn't get to the island until about 9:15 and missed our rental car but who cares? We made it!!
Met the villa rep and checked into Limin Time. I really love this place. Not the best views for sure but you get a lot for the price. It is in Great Cruz Bay. We slept in the next morning, headed to Conrads to get our Jeep and met Gladys. This lady is a hoot. She really had my hubby's number and had me rolling with laughter. She invited us to her church on Sunday! We may stop by and check out. After lunch at LimeInn we headed to Trunk for some afternoon snorkeling. the water was smooth and clear. We snorkeled the right side of the cay and saw a fair amount of fish. It seems the coral is more alive there. Headed back to the beach and broke out the banana bread we bought at one of the stores and was immediately surrounded by seagulls. it was eerie! You would look away for a second and they would be closer. It is obvious that people must feed these guys otherwise they wouldn't act like this. We kept our banana bread to ourselves and finished it off and they moved on.
We headed back to our villa, cleaned up then headed back to LimeInn for the all you can eat shrimp. It was pretty good. The Key Lime Pie was amazing. Yummy.
I will have a full TR when we get back with pictures and all. I am just so excited to be here that I had to post about our first day. This place really is paradise and we are loving every second of it. The moment we really realized we were not in Dallas anymore was when we were driving to Trunk and I yelled out to my hubby "Dont hit the chicken!" LOL I think that will make us laugh for years to come. The poor little thing was running right across the main road and hubby was looking off at the ocean.
Anyway, we are off to Miss Lucys and Salt Pond today. Looks like a beautiful day!

Glad you're here!
Wow, we hiked Rams Head this morning and snorkeled Blue Cobblestone afterward. The water was really cloudy from the little bit of surf there we think, first disappointing snorkel of the week. But man it's hot! I can't imagine going to Salt Pond in the afternoon, good luck, it's like a desert down there today....
have fun!!!

What is an "aborted takeoff"!?!?
Like, they messed up? Started down the runway, and had to shut it down? This doesn't sound good. It always seemed to me that once they've committed, there's no turning back.

Soxfan22,
That is exactly what it is. We were going down the runway picking up speed and all of a sudden the pilot hits the brakes. I'm glad he did! I would hate for the problem to pop up once we were in the air.
Surfnh was right. It was super hot at Salt Pond today and the visibility wasn't that great but we saw a ton of fish. My husband saw a sting ray, nurse shark, barracuda and I saw an eel and we both saw squid.
Thanks everyone. I will be thinking of you all!!

islandelle.....we went to Francis Bay this afternoon, north shore is cooler compared to south shore at most times, and we think the water is clearer this week though we had an excellent snorkel at Yawzi on Monday. We usually only do Salt Bay and Lamshur in the mornings and blow out of there by noon for lunch back at the villa. Then we head to north shore afternoons for vegging out with our 20 somethings...
have fun, this is a great place, we're preparing to reserve the villa for next year, we're in a rut but it's a good rut.
by the way, we often see squid at Salt Pond, not sure why but it's very cool!

Oh man Elle! I would've lost it. Thank God St. John was on the other end of that journey! I'm flying to Dallas in a few weeks for work...If that were to happen on a business trip, I think I might pack it up and head back home...But a STJ trip? Whatever it takes to get there!

Sox, every takeoff (and landing) has a limit when they can abort. If passing the limit you have to take off. And that limit of course differs from aircraft, lenght of runway, conditions of the runway (wet, snow etc) and speed. Aborted landings are more common. But I agree, they are no fun, but the pilots have that under control.soxfan22 wrote:Oh man Elle! I would've lost it. Thank God St. John was on the other end of that journey!
