Ocean Runner or Nauti Nymph Boat Rentals
Ocean Runner or Nauti Nymph Boat Rentals
I am interested in renting a boat for my upcoming trip in June. I am an experienced boat owner and will be the captain for the day. Has anyone chartered from either of these operators recently? There are only 3 in our party and we are looking at renting their 25' boats. Neither of their websites have any quality photos. Just looking for current info and any positive or negative feedback.
We've rented from both over the years, and had a friend who lived down there full time captain it for us on those occasions.
We had good experiences with both outfits. Haven't rented form them in the last couple of years though.
Keep in mind fuel costs can add a chunk of change to the rental (in some cases as much as the rental cost of the boat depending on how much fuel you use).
Obviously you know your skill level, and they will pretty much rent to anyone with a drivers license ywho isn't actively drunk or drooling uncontrollably, but be aware that ocean boating and lake/river boating are very different beasts. Just do your research ahead of time and be cautious.
Ocean runner and nauti nymph both have great diplays of completely wrecked and twisted motors that got hung up on reefs. The renter not only had to replace the motor but pay a hefty fine to the VINP ranger as well.
Also, if you're planning to go to the BVI make sure you familiarize yourself with customs protocol.
A day on a boat is always a fun time!

Thanks Gromit. I have actually bareboat chartered out of Tortola before. I have experience both in- land and offshore. I was hoping someone could tell me about the condition of the boats and maybe provide some pictures and reflect their recent experience. I am leaning toward Ocean Runner in Cruz bay only because I think it will be less hassle than leaving from the Westin.
That's great Paul, then you knwo what I mean about potential hazards. So many people have no clue!
Hoepfully someone can some up with pics and more recent details for you!
You may want to PM Ruth at STJ spice. Her shop is right above Ocean Runner (she sees their boats everyday!) She's a wealth of info!!

We have rented from both. I prefer OR, primarily because they are based on STJ and because they are good people to deal with. If you don't like the boat they give you, you can always ask for another one that is available.Stop by OR before your rental date and take a look at the boats.
Nauti Nymph is based in STT (I believe) and they will send over a boat for you at Westin.
We have rented bareboat too and haven't had an issue. Have also rented with a captain and that takes a lot of the responsibility (and some of the adventure) away.

I was trying to get a picture this morning, but it just didn't work out. I am going to try and get some pictures on Monday or Tuesday and will post them when I get them.
Also wanted to mention that although I've never been out with Mindy, I've known her for years and she is a very laid back easy going person. I liked her from the moment I met her. Ocean Runner sends their people out as guides, not captains. The biggest advantage I see in taking a guide is that it relieves you of responsibility of the boat. Even small boat accidents tend to be very expensive! I always take a guide, it just makes my day a whole lot more relaxing not having to worry about it.
