Trip Report almost as it happens

Post by khud »

Here are some highlights of our trip so far:

Arrived Sat. after a surreal hitchless travel day. Early boarding/ on time take-off/ 3 1/2 hr. flight from BOS/ early arrival/ luggage waiting for us/ got last 2 seats on taxi ready to depart to Red Hook/ 35 min. to RH/ took ferry an hour earlier than planned/ got rental car with no probs/ grabbed groceries/met villa rep/ were in villa by 4:30/ ISLAND TIME!

Sun.--Watched sunriseImage/snorkeled Little LameshurImage/saw lionfish but had no markers/came across folks that parked themselves a foot from our stuff despite many other shaded spotts/ totally unsociable /weird having them there while we chatted/left after another couple set up on our picnic table/ maybe it was just a magical spot and everyone wanted it.Ate at Cafe Concordia/ not overly impressed.

Mon.--Watched sunrise again/snorkeled Haulover BayImage/caught in downpour/ wondered why everyone swam like demons back to the beach/realized that our stuff was getting soaked and did the same/ stuff got soaked/we rinsed off in the rain/ beachcombed/ fought off sand fleas/ they won/drove to Fortsberg/cool cannons and nice viewsImage/went back to villa and grilled steaks.

Tues--Slept in/took daysail on Spree 2 with Capt. Bob and Matey/snorkeled Little St James Island, Pirates Island in Christmas Cove, and Lovango Cay/WOW!/got fried/ ate at Island Blues and were very impressed. Too tired to download anymore pics...later

WOw, what a view! where are you staying? also, if you can remember where you saw the lionfish you could report it to the park service (show them?) apparently they don't move around too much?
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

We're staying at Island Horizons. Awesome villa with views that never end. About the lionfish: I tried to show it to jhud after taking a few pics but could not find it again. So I figured that my 'location' wouldn't be of much help.

Thanks for the report and pictures. I'd let someone know at the NPS or VIERS about the lionfish and approx where you saw it.

I agree... reporting even the sighting of a lionfish seems important. In addition to NPS and VIERS -

We are bringing markers with us on 5/21. If you are there at that time and don't have any, let me know. I'll find a way to get it to you. We are going to leave our unused markers some place o STJ where others can use them.
