First USVI trip

Post by Love De Islands »

Hello everyone. I am planning my very first trip to the USVI(St. Thomas) with my 9 y.o dtr and I have been given several recommendations, but I am getting overwhelmed and cannot seem to make a decision as to where to stay. So far I've been told to stay at Marriott Frenchmen's Reef & Morningstar Resort, Bolongo Bay, Wyndham Sugar Bay, Best Western Emerald Beach. I personally liked staying at guesthouses/villas on other islands I've traveled to but from what I've been reading about St. Thomas, the guesthouses don't appear to be too kid-friendly or they are closed on my dates of travel(July 31-August 5th). Can anyone help me with recommendations. I need to book this trip soon.

I personally think that the Best Western Emerald Beach would be a great option for you and your 9 y/o daughter. The beach is very beautiful white sand and very calm all the time. The hotel also has a great pool area. All of the rooms have balocony's that are ocean front as well.

Okay! Thanks Dtenel!

I agree that Emerald Beach would be a good choice.

Having never stayed at any I can't really help but do know the BW Emerald Beach is at the airport ie: the "back" is on the beach (great beach by the way) but the "front" looks at the main exit road from the airport and then the wire fence and runway.

You mention you like to stay at B&B's. May I suggest looking at the Crystal Palace. They have an 800 number and you will talk with Ronnie. This will give you a chance at B&B living in a well preserved and kept old family home. And you'll meet a guy, Ronnie, who is one of the best. I have never stayed there but know him well and can only say the best. Check out the prices.

If you are used to staying at guest houses or villas why not check out staying on St John?

I too recommend Ronnie at the Crystal Palace - http://crystalpalaceusvi.com/ - full of history. I assume you will have a car and be exploring the island and all of the beaches anyway :)

I'm with BillVT! Stay in a villa on St John! A much more beautiful island. St Thomas is nice, St John is incredible :D

Also thanks to those who recommended the Crystal Palace. We'll be staying there next month for a night.

Have to pipe in and defend St. Thomas :D IMO it is WAY WAY WAY better than St. John. We much prefer STT. In fact....I will not even go over on the ferry to STJ anymore. However, you should check it out for a day to see what YOU think because that is all that matters!

I also would like to defend STT...we much prefer it to STJ and I know that everyone on this forum disagrees so I feel like an outcast. Bluebeard's Beach Club might also be a choice. We're staying there in October and have visited it many times. All the units are beach front, it has a very nice pool with a swim up bar and it is kid friendly and not too far out of town. If you like solitude then I guess STJ is for you; personally we like the beaches on STT the restaurants downtown and THE SHOPPING. But...to each his own and that makes the world go 'round. My 2 cents...

We generally stay on St. John, but I don't think there is anything bad about STT. In fact, I prefer to stay at Secret Harbour when we stay on STT. Great beach, great snorkeling, great resturant, bar, etc!

Please don't bad mouth STT, it has plenty of pluses that STJ doesn't have. If it weren't for STT, I would never have found STJ!

And we soon come...
