VI Dolphins

Post by DonnaC »

In 4 trips to the VI's I have never seen a dolphin. I just saw the most wonderful photo of two in a recent trip report..In SW Florida a number of resorts even offer dolphin jet ski tours where guide take you our to see them...Are there fewer dolphins in this part of the water are they more elusive?

I've seen quite a few but always off shore when fishing.

I saw one in Francis Bay. It was pretty close and some people were swimming pretty near to it. I think Flip-Flop was there that day. I do think they are more "elusive," but you do see them now and then.

Dolphins

When we were in SJ lst Decemeber we did a trip to Tortola to swim withthe dolphins -- it was a delightful day.

The Westin does a day trip that includes the dolphins and a snorkeling stop.

It was pricey but enjoyable. I am sure you can make your own arrangements with Dolphin discovery and get to Tortola on your own.

Last year there was a dolphin just off the dock at Caneel Bay when we were there. I guess it hung around for about four hours. We did not see it, the guy at the dive shop told us about it when we went in to buy our masks. He took us out to see if he could spot it for us, but it had apparently just left.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
