Why does "early" seem so "late" on STJ?
Yes! I am like this too. At home on the weekends I love to sleep late, but not on St. John! I am usually up before the sun. John gets up shortly after sun rise. At home we usually eat dinner at around 9 PM--on St. John we are the first table at 5:30! I told John that this year we are going to hike out to Ram Head at dawn. He seems amenable, so far anyway.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I'm also up early on St John.
I attribute it to a few things:
I never sleep when I'm away from home. Makes it fun, considering how much business travel I do.
The house we rent is hot, so I really never sleep (get a new house you say? That would be smart...we are not)
The tree frogs, bugs, donkeys, cats, etc, wake me up
It's bright out at about 4:00 AM.
I like the first cup of coffee on the pool deck before it gets too hot.
The rest of my group sleeps in, so the solitude is awesome.
I'm insane.
and, yes, we crash at about 9:00. It's a combination of the sun, the rum and the heat in the aforementioned too-hot house. We can't bring ourselves to rent anywhere else though...

we are going with Nothintolose and her SO. They are early up and early out. I may get up early but I'm not moving early cuz I am usually up late. We rented 2 cars just in case! I told her to leave a note about the direction they are heading and we will meet up with them. I am pretty sure our cel phones will work for most beaches.

We are not up THAT early. It's the SO that wants to be out early. He likes to hit the beaches in the morning before the sun gets too strong and again in the afternoon when it goes down some.
If I want to go, I am out with him
At home...that's a whole other story...don't even start feeling like I am awake till about 4 or 5 pm. I never schedule appointments before 9:30am. I am convinced there is a secret society that goes on in the early morning

Yikes! 6:00 AM is a good time to be going TO bed! You guys have got to learn how to relax!
My guess is that most of you are starting to make lists in your head already with that first slight awakening and that finishes it for you.
Count me among that other society...the ones who must rush to get out to dinner before all the kitchens close.
THERE SHOULD BE A LAW AGAINST LIST-MAKING BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER VACATIONS!!!! That's why it's called vacation!!!

Palmtrees - that's how we are - always trying to figure out which restaurant is open the latest to get our dinner.
We have nothing set in stone for this (or past STJ trips) trip other than to snorkel alot and hopefully go on one day trip. Definitely no lists here. We also don't pack till the night before.

Pack the night before? That could never happen unless I vacationed in July.
All my summer clothes are stored in the blanket ches, so they have to come out of the space bags and get washed before I pack them.
I would love to be more carefree in my planning but the weather in New England anad our "uptight"
personalities don't allow it.

I am a sunrise person....love that time of day, especially on St. John.
We vacationed in Hawaii with the kids for many years, and on the first morning of every trip I would do the same thing....gently shake each one, while singing in my tone deaf voice...We're in Hawaii, repeat , repeat , repeat....needless to say, three sets of eyes responded by giving me dirty looks.
LOL
Of course they stayed in bed, but DH and I always went down to watch the sunrise. The last time we visited Hawaii, we were finally rewarded by seeing the illusive green flash....spectacular.
During our last trip to St. John, my baby girl (29) got up first, started the coffee and then called me to see the sunrise....that's my girl! Guess this apple didn't fall far from the tree

It takes both the sun and the rain to make a beautiful rainbow. --Unknown
