Picture Icelandic Vulcano eruption from 33000ft

Post by Maggy »

Here is a picture that one of our pilots took yesterday from an Airbus A330, when passing Iceland on 33000ft on the way to New York.

The ash cloud has now forced the whole northern Europe to close their airspace and my trip in 3 days is really in danger :( :( :( .

Maggy are you saying you can't fly out? could you jump on a train to southern Europe and take a flight from there.

It's closed all the way down to northern France and that would be over 24 hours by train. They also predict the cloud to continue south.

We have to wait and see what's going to happen. As long as the volcano still have it's eruption and the winds are westerly, it's going to be bad here. No flight activity at all tomorrow. Our USA-flights just got away in a southerly route today but they will most likely be stucked in the US. The pilot who took the picture yesterday is stucked there now (and the plane and the rest of the crew = no flight tomorrow).

That stinks! I hope that you can go! :( (I sent you an e-mail earlier today). I just checked the forum now.
Can you postpone until July and meet us there? We can dive together. :D

That would certainly be a striking view out the plane window!

My brother is in a similar situation. He lives in Sweden and is suppose to arrive in Boston, flying Icelandair via Reykjavik. However, a delayed trip to Boston cannot compare to a missed trip to STJ and the islands. I hope the skies clear for your adventure, Maggy. (That is quite a dramatic photo!)
Best Wishes...

Will you and Leslie be there in July, Augie?
I feel fortunate to have 2 tickers this year! I talked my husband into a STJ trip and I talked him into diving too!

Oh-oh. Do we know much about when this should "blow past"? My DH is leaving for England on Monday. I wouldn't mind him being delayed, but he's ready to go to the "motherland."

What a dramatic picture, Maggy. It's not to believe that a volcano in Island can stop all flight activity in a big part of Europe. And I just heard an expert in TV, who told that it can be a problem for a long time. Nobody knows how long :( .

I cross my fingers for you Maggy- and of course for others in a similar situation.

Maggy, I'm so sorry for all this vacation stress. I know how much you have been looking forward to this trip. If you have to go a day or two later, would that work?

I sure hope you make it as planned cuz I'm really looking forward to seeing you.

If not, I'll have to figure out a way to get down there in November (or better yet to Sweden :)

Fingers crossed.
