One down - One to Go!

Post by DuxDweller »

Thanks for your help on the villa hunt for a wedding reception! We've booked Tre Vista near Great Cruz Bay (Maria Bluff). Seems like a beautiful location and a terrific setting.

Now I am searching for a villa/cluster of villas where we can put up an extended family of 16 (grandparents, siblings and grandchildren). Great Expectations looks CLOSE to something that would work - but it may be even better to have two villas which neighbor each other. Any thoughts? North Shore/and west of Ditleff would work.

Thanks for any insights!

Seagrass Cottage sleeps 8 and its just around the corner from Tre Vista (very short walk). Angelica is just across the street from Tre Vista, but it only sleeps 4-6. Ruth's "Grateful Shed" is very near Tre Vista-- you might ask if it will be completed by the time of the wedding. Eden's Whim is in same general neighborhood and it holds a big group.

Thanks Jim. Do you recall the names of the two villas near Hawksnest that share a driveway on teh right as you head out toward Maho (but before Peace Hill)?

Here is Caribbean Villa's list of villa combinations: http://caribbeanvilla.com/vcombo.html

I would really consider calling a few of the agencies and asking their advice. It's what they are there for and you might find out about some combinations that folks around here don't know about.

Dux---Terrahawk and Kallaloo share the driveway across from Hawksnest. This would give you a nice "beachhead" on Hawksnest. Both rented by Catered To.

Nearer Great Cruz Bay, Oceana and Villa Bijou are two nice houses, across the street from one another, that collectively have 8 bedrooms. Both rented by Vacation Vistas.

Thanks PA Girl. I guess those won't fit all of us. I'm hesitant to call a management co down there on this because I don't want to limit the combinations to one agency. Love the North Shore's accessibility to the beaches . . .

Just wanted to pop in and say that for a lot of the North Shore houses, getting to the beach can take just as long as if you are heading from the Great Cruz Bay area. The homes directly above Gibney and the places on Peter Bay are exceptions, but the majority of other North Shore rental homes are accessed via Centerline Road. So, don't limit yourself to the North Shore!

Off Devers Bay, there are a combination of homes that might work for your group. Vida de Mar (5 bedrooms) and Sunset Beach (4 bedrooms) are next door neighbors, with an easy drive to town and beach access.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thanks Liamsaunt! You're right about North Shore access. We stayed at Hawksnest Villa in '09 and the walk down to Gibney made it in terms of "location." I will check out those Devers villas. I stayed at Vistaero in '08 and the drive from that area seemed like forever - so I guess that is the perspective I had.

Hey,aren't we related,Third cousin of a sister-in-law or something like that.

All kidding aside,I've told my three daughters that I would rather spring for a wedding on St John so I at least get a vacation out of that kind of expense instead of dead flowers.I know yall will always remember that wedding.

Anyone know anything about Villa St. John? Is there still a ton of construction over in Pond Bay?

Jim- Thanks for those suggestions! I am starting to come around to the conclusion that we'd be best off renting two villas within walking distance of each other. Anyone here stayed/been into Oceana?

Thank you to all who responded and gave some terrific advice on this! We just booked Seagrass Cottage and Crystal Sea View for the extended family. They are all walking distance to Tre Vista (reception) and look like beautiful homes!

Special thank you to Jim (Iowaguy)and St John Ruth for putting me on to the villas "next door." Thanks too to Anthony for the construction update!! What an awesome resource this forum is for finding out just about anything you need to know about "our" island!

You may have your mind made up, but we (SOTB forum ladies) stayed at Oceana and we loved it. Only less than perfect thing that I can recall was that the pool was a little small for large groups. All bedrooms were excellent and private, great kitchen, well equipped. Sounds like someone is in for a very special day! Ali~
