Snorkel belt?

Post by khud »

Has anyone ever come across a snorkel belt that you can attach things to or has pockets for things like camera, strobe light, mask, snorkel, etc.? When I go into the water to put on my snorkel equipment, I find that I have everything hanging from my wrists as I try to put on my fins, and then mask and snorkel and it's annoying. It would be so much easier if I could just put things in pockets or loops or hang on velcro straps on a belt around my waist until I'm ready for them. I have searched the dive shops online but have been unable to find what I am looking for. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Interesting question.

Personally, I don't take that much stuff with me in the water, but I suppose you could consider a small mesh bag to tow around with you or perhaps a snorkel vest that you can attach a caribiner type clip http://www.rei.com/search?query=caribiner+clip to?

Or you could attach a caribiner type clip to your bathing suit/trunks.

Maybe just a nylon belt or a weight belt for diving without the weights? Again a caribiner clip might work with these options.

Just some thoughts... maybe someone else has an idea?
*Another fine scatterbrained production

I don't know if this will help you or not, but when my wife and I get in the water I'll usually hold everything except her first fin until she puts it on. Then she gets the second fin, then her mask and snorkel, and after she's geared up I hand her everything but my first fin.

Rinse and repeat!

I've had type 1 diabetes for 40 years. We carry alot when we snorkle. Besides the normal underwater camera, and car keys... We also take blood sugar meter, test strips, lancet, insulin pump, and emergency food for low blood sugar. I wear a snorkle vest. I put my supplies in a dry bag, ( it's about 4x6 inches and 2 inches thick). I loop this through a strap or loop on my snorkle vest. The air in the bag makes it float to the surface and it follows me around like a tail all day when we snorkle. Works well for me because I do no diving. If you do some free diving, it might be annoying. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I always find such good advice on this forum. 18 days and counting! (One of these days I'll get me a proper ticker)

Put on your mask and fins before entering the water, walk in backwards because it is easier with fins on, start swimming as soon as you can, doing an extremely shallow type dive, once you are out a bit you can easily get sand out of your fins and put your snorkel in your mouth. Sometimes it is not good to be standing on the bottom anyway because of coral and urchins. I always snorkel in board shorts, they usually have a pocket that can hold a camera and ties at the waste that you can attach things to, the shorts help prevent us girls from getting sunburned too, especially if you are wearing a bikini bottom!
