Roundabout Video

Post by Anthony »

One minute of traffic going around a circle - may want to lower your volume if you have speakers, the only real noise is wind in the mic!

It looked like it was running fairly well until the second half when those two could not figure out who went first.

Just when you think all is running smoothly, along come people on the low end of the learning curve :) . It's still a big improvement over the old free-for-all intersection.

Tread lightly folks. We had a guy come head-on towards us. I'm not sure if he knew that he'd done anything wrong; he just scampered by us when we came to a standstill. OY! Such excitement!

Well it looks like most people are getting the hang of it. We have a roundabout in my neighborhood and it actually works very well vs. a 4-way stop or unmarked intersection. As long as people know you have to yield to get on, but then have the right-away once you're in the circle, you're all set.

I think roundabouts are great and in general work with sucess... this one is a big improvement to that intersection, in my opinion. Neat video!

Is there any signage up yet though? Or markings on the road telling you what to do? The Italians are in LOVE with the roundabout - there are new ones here all the time that used to be corners with lights - but they make it pretty plain and simple here - you yield coming in. If you are in it, you have the right of way, and the markings on the pavement make that obvious. I wonder what the "rules" of the road are going to be for this one -

Too funny, it was going so well and I was enjoying the ride. Until it came to a complete standstill. :D

Thnx for the share, Anthony.

Yep, yield signs are up and they also printed instructions/rules of the roundabout in the local paper - I think they need to print them again

It does seem as if a few arrows pointing people in the right direction would help out a lot.

There are signs, and they have painted arrows several times, but they get covered in dirt, and now in new asphalt. I still see people go through it the wrong way every day and people who stop to let people out in the middle of the circle are still a problem and well as people who walk through the middle of it instead of crossing at one of the roads. When it is all done I think they will have clearly painted walks and arrows. I think the people who are constructing it did a fantastic job of keeping traffic moving. I am very impressed with them! It went a lot more smoothly than I could even dream.
And yes, VI's finest...well, what can you say? It's always seemed to me that a large number of them just don't think the laws apply to them. Stopping in the middle of the circle slows traffic from every direction.
