Day 8: Bye Mama Flip-Flop, Hanging out in Cruz Bay, PIRATES
Day 8: Bye Mama Flip-Flop, Hanging out in Cruz Bay, PIRATES
Day 8: Bye Mama Flip-Flop, Hanging out in Cruz Bay, PIRATE sighting and Innervisions!
Already my mama's 5 days had flown by. Her flight out was at 4, but she is a cautious bee and wanted to give herself plenty of time so we were aiming to have her on the 11 am ferry. We also wanted to go to town anyway to see our good buddy Ruth again and maybe get a tour of the grateful shed.
We decided no beach for today! We probably could have snunk in a really early beach run but it wasn't worth it to mama so we just relaxed, had our coffee, ate our bagels and watched the birdies and enjoyed the pups. On the deck. The deck where I will someday live.
I don't remember the exact timeline but this is the day that we ended up going to town (Cruz Bay) twice and all the way out to the Tourist Trap at least once. I warned you way back on day 1 that eventually the entire thing gets really fuzzy!
We took my mama into town for a last run around Mongoose for any last minute goodies and for a Deli Grotto sandwich for the trip. Getting a to-go sandwich is so worth the dirty looks you get from your fellow passengers in the airport. They are all just jealous!
After we got mama all sorted and on her way, we called Ruth and we were able to hookup and finally get the official tour of the Grateful Shed! Man, are they rolling along! I expected a shell and they have something that actually looks like a house! Beautiful stonework, thanks to the guy hard at work during our visit. The house is awesome. Perfect layout, if they intend to rent it I think they should have no problem. I can't wait to visit St. John again just so I can see the final product. Sadly, for me, not for them, by the time I get back they will be done!!
(Note: If Pia kicks me off her deck, I may be able to hide out in the basement of the Grateful Shed. Shhhhhh. Don't tell Ruth or Ron!)
Post-Ruth, we headed back to the Coral Bay because we'd heard a rumor that RandyinMD was going to be at the Tourist Trap. Never having enough of the TT, we decided it sounded like a great idea for a late lunch. Off we went. (SORRY Pia for all those miles on the jeep).
Picture Courtesy of Randy! I just love Larry! He is the coolest. Gave us a good lesson in music history on this day. Awesome guy!

Also, I said hi to Cheryl. Way back in June we'd given her a ride from the corner with the fancy new sign to the Tourist Trap. My kids were a bit flabbergasted but then she started telling them stories and they were hooked. Well, when I said hi, she remembered them. (The brown haired kids with the big eyes I think she said!) A few minutes later out she came and handed me a ziplock and asked if I would give the kids a few treats from her - stickers, postcards, tootsie pops! - sooooo cool of her. They were so excited to be remembered!
Look Familiar?

Three words, but no picture for you. BLACKENED MAHI SANDWICH. I took Randy's advice and did not regret it. Great sandwich!
After lunch we headed back to the house to check the pups and hang out and do basically a lot of nothing. Soon we got bored and remembered that Ruth was doing a pirate thing in town. So off we were again.
At some point we decided to be tourists and stopped at the overlooks and took pictures!

Yes, we really are kind of dorky! But we're cool dorky, not dorky dorky. Just saying that makes me dorky dorky doesn't it?

We head back to town and find a place to park. Oh look at that. I know a guy who works there! Anyone need any real estate let me know, I know people who can hook you up

In the weirdness of the day, I took a snap of this sign.

And about a minute later we bumped into Capt. Phil and Tarn (his 1st mate) on the street. Just seeing Tarn made me start craving brownies and pineapple. (A few trips ago we took a daysail with the Wayward Sailor and man, she was the best part of that trip!!) He is also keeping SUPER busy this season. More good news for all!
We were on a mission, so we headed toward DOCKSIDE to find the pirates!

Is she not the CUTEST pirate EVER? We were trying to train her to be more "pirate"-like. No dice. Someone would walk by and she'd say "Hi" and we'd remind her "Its Arrrrrggghhhhh Ruth" and so it ended up being "Hiarrrrgggghhhh" - very funny stuff!
If you learn nothing from my trip reports other than this you will be set. GO HERE.

Is that Kenny?

I am kidding.
Gorgeous end to the day

It definitely got hazy toward the end of the week

Bumped into darkanddiet and her daughter! She was staying for a MONTH! So jealous. I only hated her a little bit!
Having no plan and no direction whatsoever we decided to pop in and say hi to one of LMG's many island friends, Ali (?) the bartender at the Waterfront Bistro. The bar has a great view of Cruz Bay harbor and is a nice place to watch the sunset.
Pineapple & Malibu. My new best friend.

Decisions, Decisions.

Ali was super good to us and we enjoyed a couple drinks before deciding to head off to find the G-Spot! For dinner. Its a restaurant, sort of, if you consider a hole in the wall a restaurant. It is over by Larry's Landing. Part of Larry's Landing? Anyway, dinner for me was a bbq chicken and bacon wrap and a beverage. Awesome food and a very interesting crowd. I was amazed what that guy cranks out of that little spot. The G-Spot. As LMG says, its definitely worth finding and probably will come with a show! lol
Interesting local watching there and that's all I'll say about that!
Post-dinner we headed back to the car and back over the island to Coral Bay.
Again, wiped out from a day of doing not a whole heck of a lot, I headed to bed to read and relax. A special treat was the live music of Innervisions flowing up from Owens down below. Another perfect day!
Tomorrow: My last beach day, Maho, Last Run to Skinny's, LMG tries to kill me, visiting Reef Madness & BLUES FEST!!!!

Thanks guys. It was an absolute struggle to get along with someone who loves STJ as much as I do, is as goofy/dorky as I am, eats mostly the same foods (except the no chocolate thing which I still haven't figured out) and who I know often had the exact same thoughts running through her head!
I can't tell you how many times she or I would say something and the other would say, "I was thinking the exact same thing!"
Absolute torture I tell ya!
