TimeShare Presentations

Post by vi lover »

Okay - so I've not been through one in 26 years (just lucky I guess).

But - Omni Hotel in Cancun is offering a 5 night stay, all inclusive, for $399. Catch is that you must go to the 90 minute timeshare presentation.

Just how painful would this be? It's a $2,000 value without the 90 minutes of torture!

we just did it last year in Arizona. first time for us. we were staying at a friends share. it wasn't too bad for us because we knew nothing about how it all worked but once we said no it got a little uncomfortable but all in all it wasn't too bad.

The "sell pressure" in Cancun is much greater than that in the states or at the Westin St. John. They don't give in easily...90 minutes of torture will probably be 2-3 hours or more. If you're tempted, read the fine print very carefully. They may tell you that you can back out of it, but remember that you are in Mexico...so it may not be true...be very careful.

Thanks everyone. I suspected that they would be very aggressive. Read reviews on Trip Advisor of the hotel in general and several people complaining about being harrassed in the lobby by the timeshare people.

We'll probably pass - not worth the airfare and discounted hotel expenses to have to deal with it.

Thanks again!

At this time you can get...as a regular consumer.

At the Omni for a five night period in the fall...
Lagoon View Room - All Incl Sale/FreeNt Bonus ¨Õ $952.00
For a party of two to include all taxes and service fees.

No time share spiel.

I'd probably only do it if I were dying to go to Cancun, had the $$ or ff miles for airline tickets and plenty of vaca time.

Not a $2000 value at this time...

My advice---stay away. I did this in Cabo and even though I had no interest in a timeshare going into the presentation, after at LEAST 3 hours, and numerous sales people giving me the pitch, I nearly cracked under the pressure. I'm surprised they didn't use waterboarding as a sales technique.

Thanks all.

Berlingirl - we're limited to July 4th weekend and have 2 kids that would be "free" if we go to the presentation, and not free if we book as regular guests. I may be off a few bucks, but point is for us it would be a great savings.

But - I do now agree with you all not to do it. I have no great passion for Cancun - just looking for an inexpensive way to treat my wife and 2 daughters to something other than our typical Florida beach vacation....

Thanks again!

I will never do one again. We did it in Key West. They said an hour, it was three. Then they had our email and phone number and just kept hounding us.

Just a pain in the neck especially when you're on vacation.

Hi ViLover...

Priced it again for 4th of July time period 5 days with two kids...$1220 this time around. Total. All inclusive.

(Easy for me to do...I'm a travel agent so it takes me 30 seconds.)

Don't blame you for looking for Florida alternatives as a new destination is always fun and the price for your timeshare presentation is not bad if you could miss the presentation.

Did the Westin one when we stayed there on STJ years (many) ago and it was a breeze. Nice carefree saleslady no pressure. I've heard since the economy and timeshare market tanked its been brutal though. Especially after the first no...

We sat through a Marriott spiel in Kauai, in order to get $100 off of an excursion. It was actually something we were interested in and the unit we toured was awesome (of course, they're not going to show us a dog unit), and it so happened that it was pouring rain in buckets while we sat through it so it was an OK way to spend 90 minutes. But we weren't comfortable with their indirect answers to our direct questions (particularly about the process of booking the space or cooperative properties.) After 90 minutes we said that's it, it's been 90 minutes, please give us our certificate. They did; we left.

I imagine that in this economy the tough sells are getting even tougher.

This makes me giggle. It reminds me of VERY long ago when timeshares first came out, my mom and I went to one, to earn some really crappy gift of a knife set or something (not a free night). We must have been really bored (and poor).

Anyways, the spouse had to be there. My mom said "just follow my lead". When the guy asked my mom where my dad was, she lowered her head and said "He's not with us."

That is as close to a lie as she ever told.
