Open mic nites anywhere?

Post by Lindy »

Heading back with our "herd" in November and have one person who is a musician. He's written some fantastic songs - including one about STJ - so was wondering if any of the places there have an open mic night to share some fun. Also, where's the best place to go to enjoy local talent while having a few drinks? We haven't had much luck at locating live music on our previous trips. Maybe we haven't looked in the right place yet so would appreciate some help. s is worth standing in the street at Woodys??? We're a little older and have always thought it looked like a much younger crowd there....plus we like creature comforts like a place to sit. Thanks all!

Island Blues had music on a few nights. I think Sputniks had a band or 2.

Beach Bar has jazz on Sundays (and is also the site for forum gatherings). High Tide had entertainment on the weekends.

In November, you may find more selection on the weekends; weeknights are pretty quiet.

As for Woody's, I'm not a fan of standing in the street, but do enjoy going there for lunch before the street crowds arrive.

Island Blues has an open mic night once a week. Right now it is on wednesday or thursday depending on other gigs. They have live music almost every night. The beach bar has music wed-sun. There is more music out there then just the Jazz. Beach bar Live Music starts at 9 pm except for jazz. Shipwreck has music 4 nights a week in season. Rhumblines has music 4 nights a week. Tap room has special performances. Larry's landing has late night bands starting at 10 pm most weekends and some weekdays. Skinny Legs has live music 3 nights a week and for special events. Miss lucy's does music one or two nights a week and then the full moon party. Fred's has music on the weekends generally. Sputnik has inner visions on thursday nights. I am a local musician, just get in touch with me when you are coming down and I will give you a full schedule of my fellow musicians and our gigs.

Thanks Wonderlost! I'll print this out and save it in my STJ folder. I know someone else had asked whether
there were any loaner guitars on the island but I don't remember if there was any reply. Last year our friend brought a travel mandoline but I think he's going to leave it home this year just because it's so hard to carry with all of the other luggage, coolers, snorkle gear, etc. That would be a great little service for someone to start.....a rental place for all those items you'd like to have but don't want to carry. Instruments, strollers, high chairs and other "kid" gear, beach toys, pop-up shade shelters, metal detectors.....I'd love to find a buried treasure so I wouldn't have to make that walk of woe! Hahahaha!
