Why does "early" seem so "late" on STJ?

Post by Gromit »

I don't know about anyone else, but I am not a super morning person. Not that I am a very late sleeper even on the week-ends. But when I am on STJ I am up SUPER early. Often I'll lay in bed until what seems "late" judging by the morning sun and look over at my watch and it's 7:00 am!!!

I swear I am physically unable to sleep late. At home hubby could stay in bed all day, but he also has the same problem.

Has anyone else suffered from this "early morning but seems late phenomenon"?

As a result our routine is as follows:

We usually get up when we wake up (resistance is futile).
Throw on bathing suit.
Make ham, egg and cheese on english muffin.
Wash down with juice or diet coke.
Pack stuff up into cooler.
Load up Jeep
Head to beach.
Lay on beach.
Swim near beach.
Lounge on beach.
Nap on beach.
Get hungry.
Go to Skinny Legs for a burger.
Lounge.
Get Ben & Jerry's Ice cram bar out of freezer in back.
Shop at the little shops.
Leave.
Make any stops (Mongoose Junction, Grocery etc.)on the way back to villa.
Hang out in pool.
Get showered and changed for dinner.
Go out to dinner.
Come home.
Go to bed at 9 pm (why too does 9 pm seem so LATE?).
Repeat.

Sound familiar?
*Another fine scatterbrained production

I'm with you! I love STJ mornings. I also love staying up late and misbehaving. Nothing like trying to cook breakfast at 7AM after being at the Front Yard unil 2:30AM.

There's something else I like about mornings on STJ. Playing rooster!

When you know your time in paradise is limited, you MUST make the most of it! Our bodies are just reacting to being so THRILLED to be there. :)

OMG, us too. We can't figure it out either?!?! I'm okay with the being up early part but being tired by 9 or 10 at night....not so happy with that. I guess all that snorkeling, sunning, celebrating and doing a whole lot of nothing has a way of being exhausting. Ali~

When I was there I was up so early that it sometimes was the middle of the night like 2 am. Then I couldn't sleep. We would head to the beach so early that we were the 1st ones there almost every time.
Then I's pass out by 9 pm- or before.
This time with the kids there it may be different!

How funny. Me too. I wake up EARLY every day and seem to go to bed early too. I think it's the excitement of being there. My mind won't let me oversleep...I might miss something!

I know in my case it happens because I just can't wait to get that first cup of coffee, sit on the deck, and take it all in. This is the time I use to read a book or the Tradewinds, jot down travel notes, peruse FF & 4WD (for the bizillionth time!) and sketch out a rough agenda for the day, or just let myself become mesmerized by the scenery. For me, that is truly what relaxation is all about. 8)

Such a funny topic cuz I'm the exact same way. At home it takes all but an earthquake to get me up but when I'm on St. John - can't sleep past 7am :D

All right you late sleepers...just imagine what happens to those of us who get up early at home!?!?

We are up at 5:30 during the week and 7:30 on the weekends. In St. John, we are dying to sleep late, but can't. Usually wide awake before the first rooster starts crowing.

Gromit was making her self sound WAY more behaved than she actually is. See my correction to her routine above ;) Don't forget this is the girl who came up with the tang/orange rum combo!

My normal day at hom eis up at 6 AM (usually with a cold, wet dog nose in my face :) ) and in bed by about 11PM. On the island I was up at my normal time (or close), but I was dozing off in the lounge on the deck by about 9:00! I think it was because we spent more time outdoors and active than I would in a normal day.

I have a crazy schedule so I get up anywhere from 6:30 am to 1pm depending on what time I go to work. If I am off I sleep as late as possible but you are all so right about St John. I think it has something to do with the sun early in the morning! Once I see it I am up no matter how late I have been up the night before. My usual bed time is between 1 and 3am. I don't know if I could adjust to a regular 9-5 kind of schedule! :D

700am is late????

Back here in reality (NJ) my work day starts at 430 am and by the time I get home and unwind I am falling asleep by 900pm. So the St John hours seem perfect to me....LOL...

We are early risers and we like to lounge around. One of the couples that we are travelling with is an up early and get out of the house early kind of people.
They are also stay up late people and we are early to bed people.
Should be an interesting trip.
