Motor Charter for 13 passengers

Post by Nancy_B »

I am looking to book a boat to Jost/Sandy Spit/maybe, Willie T for Monday, May 17th for 13 passengers. I've contacted Capt Dan from Cinnamon Bay and he is due to have his coast guard inspection that day. He is the best and is trying to reschedule BUT

In the event that this doesn't happen, can anyone recommend any other vessels that will hold this large of a group to charter out of St. John?

Thanks in advance!
PS I need to update my ticker :)

I hope MYCB works out for you.
If not, did you check out "Bad Kitty"? I think it's at www.calypsovi.com .
Looks hot!

Thanks, Jimmy! However, I definitely do NOT want a cattle car or set travel day. I'm thinking my options will be very limited or not at all. We were thinking 2 boats but once we hit 13, that ruled out 2 - 6 passenger boats.

Nancy,
We were in St. John for a wedding in November 2009 and we rented Bad Kitty for the day. Since we had enough people (I think we had around 14-15 people) we were able to get the entire boat for ourselves and go wherever we wanted.
We were also like you and did not want a "set" schedule.
We ended up going to Smugglers Cove for a bit and then over to White Bay.
Anyways just an idea! Good luck!

Jimmy,

I don't like to go on a charter boat that includes other passengers or a set itinerary (that's what I meant by cattle car).

Larlardb8,
Sounds like 'Bad Kitty' can be an alternative if it's just us - thank you!

Nancy-
That's what I thought you meant.
BK looks wonderful, and as mentioned, having it all to yourselves would rock!!!
Have fun, hope to hear all about it. Where are you planning to visit?

I hope Capt Dan can reschedule the inspection. We absolutely LOVED the boat, crew and our day on MYCB!

Nancy_B,
Thirteen is a tricky number.
A lot of boats can take six (they call it a six-pack license) and some boats can take twelve, but few boats can take more than twelve.
You know I love the Motor Yacht Cinnamon Bay and Captain Dan Ristuccia and First Mate Donna Ristuccia,
http://www.motoryachtcinnamonbay.com/pr ... rters.html
but if they can't reschedule their inspection, maybe you could contact the Calypso Charter people and ask them about the cost of an "exclusive" trip for your group on one of their boats. Maybe they would work with you.
Looking forward to seeing you guys again in May!

There is an International Regulation called SOLAS -- Safety of Life at Sea -- that requires a completely comprehensive equipment list, better licensing, some physical construction dimensions, etc. for any vessel that wants to carry more than 12 passengers Internationally -- BVI is International from the USA - so many vessels can satisfy the 12 passenger rules but not the SOLAS Standards.

Thanks to all for your assistance! Ruth, we look forward to seeing you in May too.

Iowaguy, we were just there and I can't wait to go back on May 8th - work is brutal!

Unfortunately, Dan couldn't reschedule and Bad Kitty can take us BUT they will charge us for 18 to reserve it as private and since we only have 13, it doesn't make it economically feasible for us (not a criticism of them, I know it's their business model). So, looks like no boat for us unless some of the group 'opts out' of the boat day.

How about Palm Tree Charters or another 6-pax, together with an 8-passenger boat from Ocean Runners, going on the same itinerary? Have fun whatever you decide!

Iowaguy, great minds think alike :) I was just on the phone booking Ocean Runner for the first week that I'm there in May (we have 8 on that trip) and I was toying with that same idea. I'll talk to my brother and we'll figure it out. One boat would have been nice but it looks like two may be the option.

Have a great weekend!
