Why St. John? Because It's (Not) There

Post by 54b »

Had to share...after our trip to St. John last June, I posted some crazy trip reports here, but without pictures. Well, my awesome wife took the trip report and added the pictures she took on the trip to it and turned it into a blog....wow, pictures do make a difference, who knew.

Anyway, like I said, just had to share...

Going back this June, can't wait to make some more memories.

Thanks again to this forum for all the great tips and advice.

... glad that you shared!
Great trip reports became even better as a blog.
Hope you'll continue to improve  with your accounts of the next trip.

Forgive me for scrolling down your blog to re-read the exploits of 54b on the Reef Bay Trail. I loved it the first time, and it still really holds up as a classic trip report.
Let's hope for some more of those escapades on your next trip.

Awesome trip report! I'll be honest, when I saw how long it was I wasn't planning on reading the whole thing. Before I knew it I was at the end and laughing the whole way through! Loved the movie quotes and exchanges with your wife. They sound very familiar!

Thanks for taking the time to write it and share it! We'll be on island in June as well (June 22-July 1) so we may cross paths if you guys are there.

I never read that the first time around, but am glad that I took the time to do so now.

Great stuff - thankfully you put the same relentless effort into your trip report as you did into your vacation!

Appreciate all the nice comments...and Augie, yeah, it was relentless. Admittedly, we probably tried to fit too much into one week and I know a lot of STJ fans here really prescribe a much slower pace. I don't disagree with them, but I do know that it's easier to say that when you already have a good feel for the island.

My only defense is that I'd read about so many greats things on the Forum leading up to our trip that I just wanted to try them all.

This time around, I'm sure we'll still be up with the sun, but instead of going two or three place in a day, probably just stick with one. We'll see, hard to change.

And to each his or her own...if you had a blast, you had a blast.

And 17th, we'll just miss you...we're leaving on the 15th. Wish we were there longer, one week just isn't enough.

Have a good one.

54b-- LOVING your TR.

Welcome to the world of the consistently irreverant and certifiably insane! You're among friends

Given your writing style I would like to recommend further reading: If you haven't read any of Captain Fatty Goodlanders books about the island you should check them out.

Hugs!

That last line sums it up. I certainly wasn't criticizing. We tend to be active too, but maybe not quite on your scale - but then 35 is pretty distant in my rear view mirror!

After three trips there are still beaches we haven't been to that are on our list, we haven't visited any of the neighboring islands, and we haven't had a villa gravity day. But we haven't been bored either. Some folks tell us that we'll eventually get tired of the place if we keep going back year after year. I hope to be able to test that theory out!

No sweat. Make sure you leave some booze for us! We'll make sure to drive by the entrances to the hiking trails slowly and listen for any cries for help, just in case you get yourself stranded on island somehow!

We discovered last time we went that 7 days doesn't cut it anymore. We found 10 days is the minimum. Just long enough to decompress without worrying about the "woes" and not too long that the grandparents will stop watching the kids, pets, house, etc.

June will be here soon! (although not soon enough...)

I loved reading your TR, I was litterally in tears laughing out loud. You are a very talented writer. You should do it professionally.
We however tend to run from beach to beach and place to place as well while we are there...this will be our 3rd trip and we've yet to see all the beaches...nor have a gravity day, and of course now that we are planning on another trip..we are already deciding which beaches we are going too..Once again...I loved reading your report...cant wait for the next one...:)
