ahh.....it is good to be back....a question for all regulars

Post by lavender »

Hi all - Haven't been on this site much in the last year or so - life has been too upside down and we have had our share of the unemployment woes and all and it was just too depressing to read about fabulous St John when we knew we wouldn't be going for a long, long time - but alas I am back!!!!!!!!!!!!! Things are much better - both of us are employed with great jobs (thankfully) and unbelievably my hubby and I are thinking about planning a last minute vacation to St John the first week of May. So the question to all the forum regulars and experienced travelers - what's your favorite St John Villa for two??? It only really needs one bedroom - love the Coral Bay side of the island but will consider other great spots but probably not right in Cruz Bay, probably want a/c but could live without it want a great view and either a pool or hottub and hopefully a reasonable price - (under 1500 for the week) would be fantastic! Ideas??

Have you checked out Coconut Hill Cottage? It's on the Coral Bay side. Really nice little villa! We stayed there at the end of April last year.

Yo....take a peek at www.notreciel.com
We stayed there a few years ago and loved it. Nice thing is it is in a great place to get to all spots on island. The view is killer as you will see on the site. It has a nice pool and I think hot tub now as well..God bless..Bill

Luna Vista fits the bill. Great views over Coral Bay and the BVIs, a/c in the bedroom(s) wonderful porch with a great grill, small (think dipping) pool. We loved it! The only thing it won't provide is clothing optional privacy (outside). The owners, Jan and Bruce couldn't be more friendly and helpful. 5 minutes to Maho and 1 or 2 to the smoothie stand. We were there a year ago today (sob!) for 12 nights and had a wonderful stay.

Lavender...first off, welcome back! We've been in much the same boat for a while. I don't see a trip on the horizon, but I refuse to remove the ticker. Trip soon come....I hope.
Still waiting to return to St. John!

Congratulations on making it through the tough times and for, once again, planning a wonderful trip to the "ilons".

We would HIGHLY recommend Cielo Vista on Gifft Hill. In low season, the price appears to still be $1750 - which is a little above your budget. But, you could always try to negotiate.

They are listed under the Carefree Getaways agency listing. When we rented the villa a few years ago, we went thru Carefree and they were great.

Cielo Vista has beautiful amenities and killer views!! And is in great proximity to Cruz Bay.

Good luck in your search!

Hi Lavender!

I noticed today that Destination St. John just released a bunch of discounts for May. They are offering 20% off all new bookings (why didn't I wait to book, grr!), and some of their houses are 30% off in May. They have Calypso Cove and Spyglass open in May for $1500/week, and Hale Lanai for $1795. Here is a link to their specials page, there are a couple other places at or close to your budget too:

Sail View Inn in Coral Bay. Not a villa, but one of two suites in a private home. VERY affordable, clean, comfortable, nice hosts. There's nothing I can say about this place that isn't great. There's a reason I'm packing for my fourth trip to STJ in 16 months.

What about Stone Harbor in Coral Bay-

Fits the budget; we stayed there in November and it's a great view, can walk to restaurants, grocery etc.
PM me if you have any questions and good luck with all your planning :) !
