When we were on STJ Amy wore a white t-shirt while snorkeling. When we got home she tossed all of the whites into the washer with some bleach to soak. When she took the snorkeling t-shirt out of the bleach water it had large area that had turned yellow. Could this be a reaction between the bleach and the salt that had dried into the shirt after being in the ocean?

Time to start working on convincing the wife that we have to go back soon!
Sounds to me like it may have been some microscopic or multi-celled organisms or plankton that were on the shirt and died upon contact with the bleach.

Have Amy mix a little dishwasher detergent with equal amount liquid clothes detergent, rub it in with an old toothbrush and wash in machine after about 10 minutes sitting. If it doesnt come out, just tell Amy to keep it as her snorkel tee for the Next

The same thing happend to my husband when we were in St. John. One of his favorite t-shirts had yellow stains on it and they never came off. We thought that maybe it was from one of the flowering plants or trees.
I definitely think it's sunblock. It always happened to all of our bathing suits, so I am careful not to buy any suits that have white anywhere near the edges of the suits.
