Please help me pick a villa
Please help me pick a villa
Ok. The time has come to pick a villa, and I don't know which one to go with. It will be a family of five (kids ages 14, 13,
. We have been to St. John twice - staying at the Westin villas. This time we want to try a private villa. So - here are the choices: Calicaribe - Ambiance -- or Cinnammon Bay Estate. Please chime with any and all advice. Particularily if you have stayed in one of them. We will be going next February and staying for 8-9 nights. Thank you so much!!!

Hey Waterguy,
We only live about 90 miles apart. I live in Antigo which is west and a little north of GB (go Packers!!). When you fly down do St. John, where do you fly out of? We have been thinking about Milwaukee on Delta. Last time we flew out of CWA we had to connect twice - which made for a grueling day. O'Hare is about 5 hours for us - kind of far.

Cinnamon Bay Estate is a dynamite villa with spectacular Northshore views. It sits right below Cinnamon Ridge and is in a nice, private area (Catherinberg). It's possible to take the road down to the Northshopre road from the house, but it's bumpy and "windey). Else, you take the road back to Cruz Bay via Centerline.
Badger5,
Hi fellow cheesehead. We are having a WIsconsin forum party July 14th in Madison.
You should come!
I have been snowmobiling in Antigo many years ago on a club trip. Our drinking club had a snowmobile problem.
I am sorry I can't help you with the villas. I've only been to STJ once and didn't stay in one.
This is a good place to ask though.

ambiance villa
badger,
never stayed at any of 3 but i've had my eye on ambiance via dest stj web site for 2 yrs now, she's a beauty, just can't convenience the bride to spend the bucks for extra luxury esp for a twosome which is our preference.
based on pics ambiance appears to be on upper rockridge on left just past la papaya on right and before allesandra on left. we've stayed just above in dstj's treasure ridge and temptress. the views, sunsets and breezes are wonderful there for mornings and evenings. we go to north shore beaches by day and the drive along the shore is part of our treat, then we stop at starfish for something to grill and drink that evening. must be low humidity in that area since all our wine and liquor bottles are empty in the mornings due to evaporation.
we keep saying we are going to stay on the north shore area to cut down on drive to beach but then you have a longer drive to the market. we're caught in a trap and just can't seem to figure it out. but i do know if i don't quit reading all this stj stuff on the chat boards i'm going to wind up back down there again before i can afford it.

ps, we've flown delta's atl to stt nonstops numerous times over last few yrs without a problem usually on time too. normal flt leaves around 10am and you have trouble making mye connection but on sats through april they usually add a noon flt you could easily make. return should be no problem. conflict disclosure: papinlaw 45 yrs at delta before retiring in 1982 and baby daughter's in 14th yr of her career with delta and she's reason we can afford our trips (it's all about the passes).

Badger5, we're from Wisconsin too! You really should try to plan to come down for the July gathering... we'd love to have you!
I'd go with Cinnamon myself. Have never stayed there but have always longed for a place on the north shore. Have heard nothing but great things about that villa.
If you want another place to check out and are willing to stay over near Coral Bay, we really enjoyed Astral Villa last trip. A really lovely place and your kids would have one of the buildings to themselves, and you parents would have a bedroom pod to yourselves too. www.coralbayvacations.com

We stayed at Ambiance with the Flip FLop family and another couple. All in all we had 6 adults and two little kids.
I have to say that we LOVED this house. It's broken up into two sections with a fantastic pool and deck area (as well as a cute little bridge) connecting the two.
The main house hosts the master bedroom which the grown ups could stay in and a loft bedroom accessed by a spiral staircase. This room was a bit stuffy but had a sort of treehouse feel. Only down side was that little flip flop got seriously munched on by mosquitos. We're not sure if she was just fresh meat or if this was where they lived. SO if someone sleeps up there take buggy precautions.
The other building just a few feet away has two levels with bedrooms upstairs and downstairs. The outdoor showers are fun. Bedrooms have A/C which is nice, but we had some water on the floor issues with the A/C. Tile floor- so no biggie, but wet nonetheless.
We loved loved loved this pool along with the view. We also loved the furniture in this house inside and out- very comfortable. Kitchen was great and TV/DVD was great too. Nice size fridge.
Based upon the number of people in your family you should have plenty of space.
It's also a convenient Choc Hole location, so you can still get home from Starfish before your $9 1/2 gallon of breyers ice cream melts. Beautiful views too.
Easy access to the garbage dumpsters on the way to town as well. Keep in mind you need to dump your garbage daily to avoid critters.
All in all I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!
