The fake Surly Cantina

The Health Department inspection outcomes really rely on the specific inspector. And once they shut you down, they have 48 hours to reinspect (technically) so you can reopen. However, for the several places that were shut down in Wharfside, the inspector could not come back (from STT) in 48 hours to reinspect because they didn't have a ferry ticket.... So it took a little longer for a few of them to reopen.
The leaseholders of the Surly Cantina spot will NOT be calling it that. It is my understanding that they never intended to do that unless Craig was still running the place. They reopened yesterday with a new name, Love City, and a similar type of menu, but all new recipes. The leaseholders are owed a lot of money, and it would have been foolish for them to allow that amount to continue grow. They wish Craig and Suzanne well, and no ill will, or they would have never made the initial investment for them to open the place.

Good luck to the new place. Just seems to me like it's tough enough to be in business down there right now that we ought to be really sure the info we put out there is accurate before we potentially harm someone's new or existing business.

It must take a great deal of patience to run a business in the islands! I can just imagine a Chicago or New York restaurant owner's reaction if the inspector didn't return because he didn't have a bus pass.stjohnjulie wrote:...the inspector could not come back (from STT) in 48 hours to reinspect because they didn't have a ferry ticket...
Thanks to those on island who have given us more info. I wish the previous and current business owners well.

OMG seriously! People around here flip out if an inspector is 15 minutes late.chicagoans wrote:It must take a great deal of patience to run a business in the islands! I saw Suzanne and 4 1/2 month old Serafina yesterday. They are doing fine, and Suzanne's cancer treatments are moving along as well as can be expected. The Surly Cantina is hoping to have news about a new location very soon.
I sincerely hope they land on their feet with the help and support of the good people of St. John.
