camera question

see alot of postings about a canon d camera, is this camera an underwater camera? looked it up at Best Buy and there was nothing about underwater use.

Have a Nikon L20,not for underwater use though.

I think you mean Canon Powershot D10. Google that. It's an underwater camera that you don't need a case to and it takes pictures down to 30 ft.

hey tipsy, after i saw i ipowmacbacks great pics i went looking for that camera too, not priced to bad for those great shots.

but maggy mentioned not being to thrilled with it so i went searching for her last Trip report to Roatan to see her pics. maggy those pics look pretty good to me! did you use the canon camera for that trip? sorry you got sick

. but you saw good stuff.

i think i might want one of those cannon D cameras unless anybody has a better suggestion under $zillion?

I have a Canon D10 that I use primarily for snorkeling, but also for times I don't want to lug around the bigger camera.

I've been quite happy with it.

All photos but two are taken with my Canon Powershot A720IS (and uw housing). The only pictures taken with the D10 is the one of the "boardwalk" and the spotted trunkfish.

We will give the camera one more chance, but honestly, 75% of the pictures were more or less unsharp. Never have that happened to us before. I can really understand that if you are snorkeling in ruff water, but it happened to lots of pictures on land as well. I've read so much about the D10, so maybe my expectations were too high.

Agree that ipowmacbacks pictures were really good. That's one of the reasons I think there is hope. Also Jayseadee's pictures were good. Have seen others here on the forum as well. Might just be us, that suddenly are bad photographers

Btw - the D10 is not good for diving, as it can't be taken deeper than 30 feet (unless you only do very shallow dives of course).

Thank you all for the info & advice. As usual,everyone is so helpful here.

Will go camera looking this wknd. Our 1st snorkeling trip lst yr.just used a Fuji disposable and was very happy with the pics,but didn't know about ordering CD's when getting developed. So don't have the pics on computer, which is disappointing. After reading the post from "casco" @ doing this,might just try them again plus alot of people here use picassa as their photo program and say it will "clean up" pics real nice.

See what our pocketbook can manage.

ok can do that, will leave Jim home, "forget to wake him that morning" and meet you at JFK.. ha.

not sure if can talk Jim into another camera,bought a new one for our cruise last May and have 2 others in desk draw.

.. so think will stick w/ the disposable & use the photo program to fix the so-so pics.

How's the house deal coming?

Depending on when your trip is there are two notable waterproof point and shoot cameras that were just announced. They are probably a couple months from being released.

Olympus Tough 3000: hopefully better waterproofing than the last version and uses SD cards instead of Olympus proprietary flash cards. I had the 6000 on my last snorkel trip to Culebra and it leaked a couple times but I was able to dry it out.

Panasonic Lumix Ts2: Ts1 always got great out of water reviews, this version will be updated to be waterproof to the same depth at the Canon D10 (10 meters)and will supposedly have better underwater results

Just wanted to throw out some info on these upcoming cameras in case your trip is a couple months off.

Thank you. Going in April. So maybe will one or both will be out by then and can look into them, but might be high $ since new on the market. See how it goes. Just know plan on snorkeling most of the time so will be taking lots & lots of pics !

LOL...sure.... Jim can't get you to the Tourist Trap. But I can!

I have found that some quick 'auto level' adjustment in Photoshop or other image editing software acan really make underwater photos 'sing'.

Here's a shot I took on Culebra with my old sony u60 before the sensor died. This is post processed, the original was so murky I was tempted to toss it until I tried a quick fix.
