Waiting until the last minute to get a deal.

Post by Agent99 »

We need just one night on a Thursday the first week in March. What are the chances that if we wait until a few days out that we can score a great deal at the Ritz on STT? No way were paying the advertised rate but it sure would be fun to try it out just once.

Anyone play the waiting game for a good deal?

Only if I have a back up plan like a reservation that can be cancelled the day before!

I doubt the Ritz will discount at the last minute but I would try Priceline or Hotwire a day or two before, select 4+ star resort on STT and see what pops up.
I've got 2 tickets to paradise~Pack your bags we'll leave tonight!

I'll look around for a place where we can cancel without penalty 48 hours out. It's a longshot but you never know. We have some Amex points too, that might help.

I would definitely have a backup plan, especially since you are traveling in high season and during some spring breaks.

"last minute" was my plan for a few days in May; however, I have no patience for that and booked somewhere instead :?

We always play the waiting game, mainly because we don't like to commit. Two weeks ago, we woke up in a villa in Francis Bay, on our last day of the rental, with no place to stay that night. But an hour or so later, I had a great villa for another week----everyone I had contacted offered great discounts.

We've done this during much busier seasons than STJ is experiencing now, always with success.

What is the worst that could happen? You stay at a Best Western for the night? Go for it.

I was thinking I'd pay some bills with Amex that I usually write a check for then I thought, why not pay all of my bills with Amex and get bazillion reward points every year?

I hope none of you think less of me for this but good Lord I love a swanky hotel. Especially when it's free or as close as it gets.

In my next life I want to come back as that Travel Channel gal who gets to go all over the world reporting on the hotels and restaurants.

Terry, The St. Regis in Manhattan is the coolest. We haven't stayed there but have always wanted to. Whenever we get the chance to go to NYC we make a point to go to the Ole King Cole Bar just to see the Maxfield Parrish mural.
