A few ideas for the next trip:
1. rent a dinghy
2. kayak to Hurrican Hole from Crabby's
3. try Sosa's or Sogo's
4. grab a pate and and island concoction from the white truck in Coral Bay center
5. hike to Drunk Bay & Blue Cobblestone Beach from Salt Pond

Sail around the Island

Post by LLanders »

I'm going to learn to sail this 35' DuFour sloop called Gypsy Spirit around the island. I found it online. http://www.handsonsailing.com The price is right and this local guy sounds like he knows what he's doing.

I thought about doing the same thing. Cap. Doug is great but as a solo traveler, I don't want to crash someone's day. He said he'd work it out, so I'll just trust him and have a good time learning to sail!

We did this, but I would do it again...

Go to the Taproom in Mongoose Junction and have a VI Pale Ale (or several) and talk to Kevin and Cheech. Great beer and great guys! They also have free wireless if you bring a computer (I didn't).

Things we didn't get to do...

Visit Jumbie, Hawksnest, Salt Pond, Waterlemon Cay (details in upcoming trip report)
Rhumblines
ZoZos
Smoothie Truck (see trip report)

Too many more to list.
Virgin Gorda
...ron

Time to start working on convincing the wife that we have to go back soon!

I just selfishly wanted to bump this up to see if anyone else has any ideas for things I should not miss this time around!

And...to see my ticker of course :)

Thanks, guys, I got some great ideas, too.

But much like some of you mentioned, I'm sure I'll get drunk and completely forget what few plans I've made.

Flip Flop read my mind. So far my list includes:

Shipwreck Landing Restaurant
A Day Sail
Woody's
Mongoose Junction (how the heck did we miss that?)
Drunk Bay
Donkey Diner

Im sure I'll have much more by next June.

If quality snorkels are a high priority, put Pelican Rock on your list. Good alternative if Haulover North is too choppy when you go out to the East End.
Best of course would be to be able to do both, combined with lunch at Vies.

Salt Pond
Miss Lucy's
Island Blue's

eating a breakfast somewhere (we've done bagels or pastry from Deli Grotto or Baked in the Sun, but my husband loves breakfast and we've never had a full meal while in St. John)

Charter BVI day (we've only done the ferry)

This will be my second time staying on Stj and I would like to make it to the following places.
Woody's (definately)
Hawksnest
Francis Bay Beach
Reef bay Hike
Virgin Gorda (if time)
Maho Bay

Can anyone recommend a snorkel that shouldn't be missed. I don't want to feel like I'm missing something. :D
Thanks

Not to be flip, but I feel like I really have done everything. Explored every bit. Gone to the library. Hiked each trail. That's why I'm excited to go back again after a two-year stretch of "trying other islands"...... there's nothing to do but enjoy the place the way God and Rockefeller intended.

I definitly can vouch for floating at Maho at sunset! I think that is something I would like to do every trip!

some of the other things i would not miss on the next trip...
Brown Bay hike (I just need to start exercising first)
LaTapa
Beach bar Sunday Jazz
more dinners at the villa
Salt pond
Drunk Bay
sitting on the beach time just relaxing (I spent too much time in the water and not enough enjoying the sites above the water)

I don't like to have an agenda so heaven only knows if I will get to any of these but I can wish!

I want to (think I said stuff before but this is today's list)

- snorkel in the East End (Haulover North and Pelican Rock and Paradise Point - is that the right one Parafins?)
- view more sunsets from the water
- cooking at the villa will be fun now that I know how to cook thanks to this forum :)

I don't know, but I DEFINITELY want to spend alot more sunsets in the water. They are beautiful from the villa but there's just something about watching it from the water.

How do you get to Pelican Rock? (I've snorkeled there from daysail trips but never directly from land so I need land directions). Thanks!
