So tell me--is it true..or is my memory failing me?

Post by Knolmom »

We will be on Island January 22 to January 29, staying in a villa up in Virgin Grand Estates. Although we have made many trips to St John, we have never been fortunate enough to stay in a villa there during high season.
We have spent maybe 8 days on St John and St Croix doing day trips off cruise ships, usually in late January, and have stayed on STT twice for a week in late January and also came over to STJ for day trips almost every day while there.( Who but us stays in a hotel on STT and rents a car for a week on STJ???)
I can never recall having a drop of rain during the day or evening( maybe overnight) and when staying on STT during this time of year I never recall being bitten by bugs either at Secret Harbor or the Renaissance, even when we were out on the beach at sunset?
So tell me-- do I really have a short memory of Paradise? Did I just have a lucky streak ? Or are there really few bugs and little or no rain in late January- early February?
Please tell me I'm not dreaming and both of these memories are true!!!

Feb is one of, if not the driest month of the year. I think with about an avg. of one inch of rain. This Jan seems kind of wet to me, but we'll see how the next 2 weeks go. My guess is that we were getting rain while you were here it was just between 3-5 AM for 20 minutes or so. At that time, I hope you were sleeping off your bushwhackers at that hour.

It's always better to be safe than sorry. I never travel to STJ without a bottle of Bens bug spray in my bag.

I was there last week and still scratching like a monkey but I was in some places you won't be I'd say that the bugs were the same as most times

We just got back last night. We had 1 full day of rain and 2 half days. The bugs are quite bad on the beaches. Definitely bring some spray or pick some up on island.

knolmom-- leaave the avon at home. I found it doesn't work as well. Deep woods off with as high a DEET concentration as you are comfortable with is the betetr choice IMHO.
