There is a bus service (the VITRAN) that runs from Cruzbay along the centerline road and out to Saltpond bay-- on 107 once you hit coral bay.
you cannot get to the northshore beaches via public transport nor does public transport go out to the east end--
hitching is fairly common--and that would probably be a good alternative for the northshore--not so much a great alternative for the east end as traffic can be pretty light.
taxis are another option.
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

Farmer,
Daytime you may be okay with a thumb out to and from Cruz Bay. Night time you would be better off staying in Cruz Bay. Vitran was running in the evening in Coral Bay when we were there last year but I do not know what area it was covering as we were staying in C.B and had a rental Jeep. I am sure you will have a wonderful time. Not sure how long you are staying but it is easy to get to know people and maybe you can work out a ride or two from a local or someone else on island while you are there. Friendly always pays off.

Remember to point in the direction when hitchiking and not use the thumb :)

taxis an option-open air taxis, not necessary to have your own. doesn't cost a lot and they go to the north shore beaches.

All great advice!!

During the day you can use Vitran (kind of a pain-- lots of waiting) or hitch. If all else fails use taxi.
*Another fine scatterbrained production
