Fish IDs Please!

Post by pmk »

Howdy,

The northern swells really churned up the water last week. Cinnamon was hammered,Trunk was closed, and even Waterlemon (and Lameshure) were pretty cloudy. The only place I could find with pretty clear water was Salt Pond Bay -- which was gorgeous.

Still, we had a great trip.

At any rate, could Pickle or some other fish guru help identify a few fish for me?

#1 They don't look like Yellowfin Snapper to me ...

#2 Some sort of flounder, I presume....

#3 And for bonus points, what the red fish in the background. I tried and tried to photograph it but it was really shy. I think the foreground fish might be a Blackbar Soldierfish, and I'm thinking that (perhaps it's a Glasseye Snapper, but who knows....

Lastly, any bat people out there? I'd love to know the species.

Thanks!

That's a Peacock Flounder, and I think a Rock Hind behind the Squirrel Fish - and the first one is Yellow Tail Jack, no???

If I'm not mistaken, those are Batus Reef Bay Sugar Mill Ruinus...or at least their cousins. (I'm really a zoologist, I only pretend to do whatever it is that I get paid to do)

I noticed them in 2008 and then, ever the nice guy, called the wife over.

Her: Look...more ruins (it was hot and we were tired)
Me: Yes...look up
Her: You son of a bitch! (Screams and tears out of the room)
Me: HAHAHAHAHAHA

Thanks, Anthony and everyone with the help with fish, and thanks Loria with the bat ID.

There are loads of Jamaican fruit-eating bats hanging under the roofs of the old sugar mill at Reef Bay. There are millions of hermit crabs there too.

Last year, I spotted this kestral hanging out under the eves too.
