Friendly, professional car rental agency?

Post by bnsilly »

Have been reviewing car rental places and the one I thought I would rent from, has many negative reviews of the staff being rude, etc..I don't have time for rudeness on my vacation..
Can you recommend an agency that you have dealt with recently that was friendly, professional, and responds promptly if there are any problems with the vehicle, etc? Prefer someone in Cruz Bay that offers parking as well..Thanks so much for any info~

We have rented from St John Car rental for the past few years. They are an easy walk from the ferry dock, are friendly, professional, and offer parking. That being said about parking, sometimes it is a challenge since their lot is not as large as some.
We always rent jeeps and they are in good shape, late models, and everything works well. Will continue to rent from them when in (on) STJ.

This has been debated, mentioned, cussed & discussed so many times here. Every place I know has both fans and those who wouldn't return. Keep in mind that most people only write reviews if they are negative. I'm pretty sure that I used the agency you are questioning using and I will wholeheartedly use them again. Send me a PM if you want more details and/or the name of the place since I'm not going to be the one to open the can of worms.

I've had very good experiences with both Courtesy and Delbert Hill's. Both have parking available. :)

I have been renting from St John Car Rental without issue for 13 years. Love Lonnie's staff and their cars are always decent. If there's a problem they will give you a new car.

Like someone said, everyone has their own opinion.

We have rented from Courtesy each trip & have always had that friendly, professional & quality service with quick responses to any communication. We are renting from them again for next trip. Like previously said, there are many good ones so it's nice to have great choices.

We have rented with St John Cars and Courtesy; both were good experiences.

Our recent experience was just 2 weeks ago. We went with Courtesy because they are open an hour later than STJ Cars. I was worried about getting the car on our first night because we stay in Coral Bay (and I don't want to deal with getting back to town to get the car in the morning.)

Turns out that our flight was delayed and we were on the 7pm ferry from Red Hook (and Courtesy closes at 6pm.) Greg at Courtesy stayed late and met us with the car at the ferry dock - he is a really nice guy. I was very grateful that he stayed late; it made our first night so much easier.

Both Courtesy and St John Cars let you park in their lots (which are small), but we haven't used them for that.

Chicagoans you bring up a good point....

Keep in mind that even though St. John car rental closes early, they will gladly give the key to a villa greeter and all you have to do is drive back sometime the next day to do the paperwork.

We have used Courtesy Car Rental for several years and they are very wonderful to work with. They pick you up at the dock, too. Can't imagine any one of the car rental agencies on St. John being rude - never had that problem!!

Courtesy...they actually have parking....we even left it there for a full day sail, and Greg said "no problem"...

Extremely professional and as others have said will meet you after 5pm. WIll pick you up and take you back to the dock.

I have rented from STJ Car Rental 3 times and NEVER been able to park in their lot, even just for dinner or drinks. And that was during the off season.

I'm always impressed with service like this. I'm sure the logistics of getting a new car to the island are incredible, and getting parts for repairs etc. must also be a pain. I think it's amazing, in a good way, that the rental agencies are so trusting with these expensive vehichles that are their livelihood. Makes me want to take really good care of the vehicle.

I like that all the agencies seem to be owned by native St. Johnians. I like to support the local population when possible, and this is a big portion of our on-island spend.
