STJ - Proposal Spot

Post by sinkinsoon »

I'm going to propose to my GF on St. John in a couple weeks. This will be our first time there, and we are staying at Concordia, which I believe overlooks Salt Pond. My plan has been to pop the question on the top of Ram's Head, at the end of the trail. I think we'll be able to see the spot from our eco-tent, and we'll be able to get good pics of it, and probably go back more than once.

So I just wanted some confirmation that this will be a good spot, or if you have other suggestions that would be great. I know the view will be fantastic, but it sounds like there's not much vegetation, etc.

Any other ideas, or do I have the right idea?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, this is a perfect idea! The views up there are amazing.

If you get there while the sun is rising it will be especially romantic and you'll likely have the place to yourselves. Just bring flashlights for the first part of the hike, while the sun is still coming up. Congratulations. :D

The views are spectacular, but the landscape is pretty rugged and there isn't much vegetation. I personally don't think of it as a romantic spot. I have some photos of a June trip, including one looking back towards Concordia. Send me a private message if you want to see them.

To me, that's always the perfect spot for those life moments, whether they're happening or just thoughts. It's very moving. I'd say great choice!

When I saw the title of your post I immediately thought you should do it at Ram's Head. I was happy to see that's what you picked! I think it's perfect. Just don't stand close to the edge when you pull out the ring or she'll careen over the edge!! LOL!

It's a great spot - the views are amazing.

Is she a hiker? If not, the high of the proposal will certainly overtake any pains of the hike!

When we did it in November, we were the only ones on the trail for most of the time - not sure how many others may be sharing your moment during the high season. Although it will be nice if someone is around to take your picture together.

There are some pics of the hike and views in my TR:

Good Luck and congratulations! Let us know how it goes.

And since you'll be in the neighborhood, be sure to stop for lunch or dinner at the Tourist Trap!

Perfect! I'll add one thing...
If you're there during a full moon, it might be great to go out to Ram Head for sunset, and then hang out for a bit while the moon comes up. Bring headlamps with you for the return, in case it gets a little dark.
Congratulations. STJ will hold a special place in your hearts, and you'll have an excuse to return often.

Perfect spot. If she gets all romantic on ya watch out for the cactus  and like another poster said, not to close to the edge it's a long way down.

Having never been there before, do you think it's safe to do that hike in the dark? I love this idea, but I've heard the trail can be hard to find and I'd have no idea where I'm going.

Thanks for all the responses!

Ram's Head would be my first choice. We didn't take the hike until our fourth trip to the island and I must say there is a magic up there like no place else - even on St. John! Congrats and good luck.

Too funny, cap'n!

Man, in our 5 trips, we've never ventured out to Ram's head. Gonna have to make that a priority.

Good luck sinkinsoon!!!!

It's a perfect spot--interestingly we read in the journal at P-13 in conrcorida of some folks that did the same thing--and she said yes and thought it was perfect--so I think you are in great company!

The trail is well marked. When you get down to the beach, walk all the way to the far side, and you will see a sign pointing to the trail. The first part is walking over rocks along the shoreline, the remainder is a dirt path. The trail is well used so you won't have trouble following it. Definitely bring a flashlight.

We got married on St John in 2003 and went back for our 1 year anniversary with good friends. They ended up getting engaged at that same spot on Ram Head. I will try to get Adrienne to post a reply! Good luck. You can't go wrong proposing on St John!
