I should just do all the research myself but, I need help...

Post by Marcia (Mrs. Pete) »

Dear, dear friends of mine are trying to rent a villa for the week of 4/16-4/23. Yes, this is Fri to Fri. They would do Sat to Sat the same week but prefer not to. They only need one bedroom. It's just the two of them for a romantic get-away.

Here is what they want:
No more than $250/night ($225 would fit better in the budget)
Cruz Bay area or South Shore
Pool would be nice or hot tub
Clean
Nice views

Please help me, help them. I am not having a lot of luck so far.
Marcia (Mrs. Pete)

Missing St. John. As always.

I have a limited experience with villas, but I can tell you what I know. Luna Vista meets most of your criteria. It is on Centerline Road about 15 minutes from Woody's.

See what you think of that.

Do they need a villa...such as being able
to cook at home? If not, we found Estate
Lindholm to be kinda romantic last year. A
small pool. Wet bar, microwave and small fridge
in room. Coffee maker and dishes as well.
They serve a deluxe cont. breakfast each
morning in the garden by the pool. Beautiful
landscaping, gardens and wildlife. Many
deer for us to see walking by our balcony.
Two big bucks one day munching on flowers. A
wonderful view of the harbor. We were in the
"Caneel" room.

We only spent 4 nights there but we were
OK. Seven nights might get a little rougher
being in just one room.

OH..OH...just thought of something in a
one bedroom that I looked at on VRBO. It
was really pretty and reasonable! Reef Bay [/Cottage...lovely...$1100 low season!
I was planning to rent it for Tom and myself in
May...before another family couple decided to
join us. We have reserved Villa Tamarindo instead.

Good Luck,

I thought Star Villa's may work, but that week is still in high season and above the budget. Couldn't see availibility to determine if they may be able to negotiate for low season rates.

If they don't need a villa Hillcrest Guest House has availability (I've not stayed there).

I checked a Grande Bay unit(vrbo) that we're renting in May, but it is not available for the latter half of their week. They could check with Kim (dinghyjoe@earthlink.net) to see if other units are free.

I always thought most villas reduced rates 4/15, but seems a lot stay in high season until the end of the month.

Good luck.

I've got my eye on the Hummingbird Hill Villas. Caribsurf is in a beautiful coconut shaded compound with a private deck right at Frank Bay. I chatted with the owner in August when we were staying at Star Villas SkyTop and they are nice folks. The Coconut Coast Studio is next door with their two big labs. It's very quiet there with sunset views - you've seen Ruth's photos. We see starfish, turtles, eels and octopus in the bay there.

Meritage Cottage

Post by frannieg »

Try meritage cottage. My wife and I stayed there a couple of times. Very nice, inexpensive villa. It is a 1 Bedroom Cottage, completely separate and private from the main house. It has a hot tube, small kitchen, etc... It is in Chocolate Hole.

I can recommend this 1 bedroom:

or this one if a condo will work:

or Cruz Views is a good value....

and I have Sail View on my short list for future consideration.

Casa Blanca? Nice to have the pool all to yourself and the crow's nest is cool. Place definitely needed some updating when we were there, but the price was right-it hits your budget/night, but there are taxes on top. I wish her sight had the option of checking availability but it doesn't. :(

We stayed here in May last year and were very happy with everything about the place. Very inexpensive, Molly and Family were great, the place was clean and had a nice little pool. Jane, the former owner that does the leasing was a huge help when we ran into travel delays too.

Just make sure that you're a confident driver. There are a couple of steep hills with nearly 180 degree switchbacks on the ride from Cruz up the North Shore, and the driveway is like the first hill on a roller coaster. It only took me a couple of days to adjust to all though.

If they could settle for a condo instead of a villa, check out Coconut Coast over by Frank Bay. I’ve stayed there in studio condo before and it was fine for two people. Never used it but there is a small pool on the property. Easy walk into town so no need to rent a jeep but if they wanted too there is parking avail. Good Luck with the planning!

I'd second Ruth if I weren't thinking about heading down around that same time myself.
