What I don't like on STT:
The dumpsters
The ride through Charlotte Amalie
The ride into Coki (but we love the beach)
Potholes
What I don't like on STJ:
Having to be on a car ferry with a dumpster:o)
Feeling like I'm a second class citizen because we stay on STT.Woody's - too small
The ride over to Coral Bay, although it's beautiful, it's confusing.
What I like about STT:
The convenience
Staying in Sapphire and being close to Red Hook
Driving all over, especially the North End....beautiful
The price
Friends
What I like about STJ:
The beauty
Fun people who've we met
The convenience of getting over to the Island
Renting a dinghy
Snorkeling:
I'm pretty good at it. Husband did shave off his mustache years ago on Grand Cayman because he couldn't get a good seal (he still doesn't have a mustache and I like it!)
I get a little freaked out sometimes when I'm out there snorkeling because my mask doesn't give me a 360 view. I've had 2 close calls that really scared me and I started to panic. NEVER EVER snorkel by yourself.
Anyway...scuba is next and I hope I can do it.

Ok I agree about Woody's - well really don't know about the food or the inside but the people who spill into the road at happy hour annoy me. I just think they are all hoping Kenny will show up!
My unique don't get: Staying at Caneel (mostly because it is so freaking expensive)

What I don't get: Shopping.
I'm all for picking up a hat or a tee shirt if I happen to see one I like while I'm somewhere else, like waiting for my burger at Skinny's, or for picking up some island bling on my last morning while waiting for the ferry. And of course I love stopping by the Spice Shop on my way off and then back on the ferry to pick up some yummy spices.
But I won't take a flight and a ferry to a beautiful island and then dedicate a day (or even 1/2 a day or 2 hours) to be inside looking at trinkets and shirts that were probably made in China. I'd rather be hiking or at the beach!

I am more of a Woody's or Beach Bar person. I wouldn't say "uppity" but felt out of place. I guess because I had to change out of my flip flops to eat at a place where I didn't enjoy the food, the waitstaff or the atmosphere. I guess I was hoping for something a bit more charming or romantic. For the $$$ I much more appreciate Morgans Mango. Sorry, I like the laid back, be as you are style. I felt like a fish out of water there.
One more thing I don't care for on StJ. Driving on Centerline at night when arriving that evening in the rain. After aclimating to island driving it is not a chore and I actually enjoy it.

Those Forum people telling us all about their trips. White sandy beaches. Coral and fish everywhere you look. Bars and cheap rum wherever you go. Temperatures in the 80's every day. And those VickiH photos constantly!....What? This is about what we DON"T like?

I too have a problem with the Caneel concept. I have not gotten the standing-in-the-road thing outside of Woody's

Patience, humility,acceptance, and forgiveness are a way of life . Not just something to excersize on vaca.
Some people visit places and hope to return there,... And then there's those who who bring that feeling of "being there" home with them.
Some folks just don't "Get It".

Not a Woody's fan. Just too loud and hot. Too many drunks...maybe I've just never hit it at the right time, but I can't stand it.
Regarding the beach: I can sit on a beach for hours, reading, digging holes with my feet, chatting with whomever we're with...but that beach can't offer snorkeling. We used to sit all day on the beach in NJ (Manasquan) and do it down here (Emerald Isle).
Get me on a Caribbean beach: I drop everything, put the gear on and hit the water. When I'm done, I get in the jeep and head back tot he house...and the fridge...and the beer...and the pool.
This summer may be different. Keeping an 8-year old at the house day with the promise of a 3:00 snorkel will be tough. We'll have some additional beach time I think. That's OK too because I can't wait to see St John through her eyes this summer.
