To Gromit & Vicki & Scubagirl and male crewmembers o
Since no one else dares I being one of the more jealous members of this board (thanks to soon having two children in private college and no Caribbean plan's in the foreseeable future) have decided to start a new thread to discuss why we are jealous of your recent disgustingly fabulous boating adventure!
Since I'm starting this thread. I get to go first to express my outrage after reading your dastardly cruel and downright vindictive meanness to the rest of us poor souls having to suffer through reading about your adventures.
Ever since I watched the movie four seasons (Alan Alda and Mary Tyler Moore. Vintage 1980s). I have dreamed of taking the boating adventure you just completed.
So to start my tirade, I noticed that a few things that are missing from your trip reports!
1. Referring back to the movie four seasons, who played a part of the newlyweds? I see this mentioned nowhere, why is this? Why are you hiding the information from us? Inquiring minds need to know!
2. I saw no mention of any swimming scenes from the boat or raucous noise during the night as outlined in the movie only vague references to the strength of coffee and certain members of the crew having inabilities rising out of bed Later than the rest of the crew.
Okay, now the rules for all additional comments directed at the crewmembers of the SS Scatterbrained, comments need to be dastardly, vindictive, completely personal with the intent of exposing the obvious omissions from the trip reports

I did see mention of a hat overboard that required swimming, while the captain scowled from the helm!shoemak38 wrote:2. I saw no mention of any swimming scenes from the boat

Shoemak38....you're looking for the juicy bits, aren't you?
What makes you think there are any? I mean, we are a group of decent, mature, responsible adults.

I'm jealous because you guys did it!! You left all your second thoughts at home and did it!!!!
I'm scared because we plan to do it in 2011.
What you left out is the second thoughts and worry that you may have thought of before you boarded that plane.
I need to be reassured, which may have been left out a little bit.
I'm glad for you all that you did it!

@Connie- Honestly my biggest concern was packing the right stuff and the size of interior of the boat and the cabins.
Being 5'10" and not a size 0 like our beloved Vicki I was right to be somewhat concerned but I can honestly tell you that I was very comfortable on the boat and slept well every night.
My biggest advice is to be sure you communicate and coordinate well in advance.
This helps to manage expectations for all involved.
Also decide about money up front so there are no surprises. This is also easier.
Give everyone a job to do so that everyone feels like they are contributing something.
When choosing a boat get the biggest one you can afford and can comfortably sail/operate. To enusre the right amount of space.
I am planning to provide a long list of tips at the end of my report so stay tuned!!

I am neither decent, nor mature, nor the least bit responsible-- but I play someone who is on TV....

The Four Seasons is another in a long line of lost classics that will (hopefully) be rediscovered one day. Alan Alda directs and stars in the film (he also wrote it) that chronicles one year in the life of three couples who have a charming tradition of traveling together every season. Now well into middle age and with daughters in college, their little clique is suddenly disrupted when one of the three men trades his somewhat neurotic wife (Dennis) in for a newer model (Armstrong). This rip in their safe little universe of rigid rules and long defined roles creates drama, tension, and hilarity not only within the circle, but also within the other two marriages. The film is shot mostly in New England, and it has a naturally lush color palette that is every bit the equal to Vivaldi's music (which inspired the set up). The tension (and there is lots of it) creeps in as these comfortably upper middle class adults have to relearn everything they thought they already knew about friendship, love, and trust. Alda is good, but he's playing much the same beta-male character he always played. Burnett, on the other hand, is a steady whirlwind of wit, snark, and dramatic intensity. The rest of the cast is solid, and Alda uses his own daughters as the college students they visit during the autumn segment. There is also an undercurrent of Woody Allen styled anxiety, which adds a nice bit of oddball humanity to the entire film.
would love sailing tips my wife and I want to take trip when kids are done with college!
Four Seasons has always been one of my favorite movies! It was actually shot on STJ at Hawksnest.
Just this past week-end it was on cable and I watched these scenes with renewed interest!
But I can assure you that I would be the Carol Burnett character; Vicki would be Ginny and Scuba Girl would be Rita Moreno (only instead of saying, "I'm Italian" she would say "I'm Canadian.")

Although I appreciate shoemak38 and the interest in jumping on this group. There are several others who did the same thing (and you know who you are) and left all of us behind. We could add them to the tirade also!

Isn't Ginny the one that is pregnant by the end?Gromit wrote:Four Seasons has always been one of my favorite movies! It was actually shot on STJ at Hawksnest.

Vicki does not like this line of conversation. Vicki would like to be another character, please.
And for those of you who are wondering, because you KNOW you want to ask and are just too decent to do it....yes, you can have sex on a boat; yes, it's fairly difficult; yes, you can do it without your next door bunk mates hearing....actually...I'm not sure about that last part.....Gromit?

Now we are getting to the good parts of the trip report almost has good as the land boop stories
I think that Vicki and I agree that, yes, you can have sex on a boat without your neighbors hearing you through the paper thin walls, am I right Vicki?
It feels a little kinky being so quiet but then again some people pay extra for that.
Of course some of us got a lot more practice than others....
Let's just say that at least four of us are now members of the sea-level club!!
NOW .... back to our FAMILY programming....
