Our local Costco (NJ) sold ready to make roti dough slices that you just threw on a hot skillet and bam! Fresh hot roti. It rocked but they may not be carrying it anymore- they didn't have it my last trip there anyway.

Lex wrote:I agree with thebin. Rotis have been a staple in India forever (and we know that India is a very old civilization). They are similar to chapatis, an unleavened flat bread, and filled with whatever you have around, then wrapped. Indians were brought to work in the Caribbean after slavery was ended. The largest concentration was in Trinidad and Tobago. They brought their own foods and the roti arrived in the West. It eventually worked its way around the Caribbean, being modified to suit local tastes and available foods and grains. Lots of versions by now.
At the risk of mentioning the obvious, surely this is how curries came to the West Indies as well...ironically from the real Indies.

Wonderful,wonderful,wonderful help here,ya'll;-thanks!
SJ from NJ, I'm with you on the way to handle that big old sucker! Actually, the 'Burrito' way of explaining it to others made it a little bit easier for them to understand.
Roti's & Johnny Cakes rule my world.
