easy dinner

Post by jack b »

Hi All-

I'm a first timer, back looking for more advice. (Only a couple days to go!) We'll be getting into Cruz Bay around dinner time, and I'm looking for a not-too-expensive and easy dinner place before we head to where we're staying towards Salt Pond. One of our party is vegetarian. Any Suggestions? Many Thanks.

I think MoJo Cafe serves vegetarian entrees. Also Rhumblines might be a good one to try.

Rhumblines & Surly Cantina

Post by girlma »

Rhumblines is a good suggestion. Also Surly Cantina for really great price for fresh food. Just seps away from the ferry dock right on the road that runs oneway from the ferry dock in front of Wharfside Village. Rhumblines is close too, a little higher priced but not an expensive restaurant by any means. Rhumblines is where Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger went after their wedding. It's an open air courtyard and VERY very pretty. -cheryl (The Tourist Trap)

Jack-
As far as a great deal on dinner, my 'hands down' all time fave is Uncle Joe's Bbq. Shela's Pot will most likely have some wonderful 'vegetarian' food, as well. Local cuisine that's deliciously cost-effective.
Rhumb Lines is totally awesome with a groovy "Casablanca" type feel, but it's definately pricey.
JJ's Texas Coast will most likely have some good veggie alternatives as well.
My top 3 choices are almost immediately in front of you as you walk off of the ferry, you'll probably walk by them a million times during your vaca. Any questions, ask away!
Good luck, enjoy, and always
Smiles-

If you're looking for easy, less expensive and quick, then Mojo Cafe and Surly Cantina are great choices. Both are outdoors and have a few tables, but no table service. Both are in Wharfside Village.

If you want table service, then High Tide or JJ's would be good choices. High Tide is in Wharfside Village (you can see it from the ferry dock); JJ's is across the street from the dock (through the park).

Rhumblines is a little further, a little more expensive and a little nicer. If it were me, I'd want to do this on a night when I had more time and could really enjoy the atmosphere and food.

Banana Deck is just beyond Wharfside; also a good choice. You'll need to drag your luggage up a set of stairs.

If you're not starving, grab your car and head out to Coral Bay; Island Blues, Shipwreck and Aqua Bistro are on the way to Salt Pond.

Have a great trip!

Hmmm...
I've never tried the grub at Mojo's, Surly, nor High Tide...
They were always just a pit-stop for a chilly drink.
Funny how one tends to walk by a million gems like those, apparently, while on vaca...
Can't wait to check them out in April!

High Tides has GREAT salads. We ususally eat there at least 1 time a week for a light, casual dinner. Kids love the burgers and I love the salads.

So many choices. Where we go depends on how hungry and tired we are once we get there I guess. It's a dilemma I'm looking forward to having, though. Look for four pale and dazed people wandering around. That will be us. Thanks for the help.

Another vote for Banana Deck... it's got a very broad menu... prices are very reasonable - and sitting up there on the deck is very relaxing - especially if you've spent the day traveling. (For what it's worth- Rhumb Lines is my favorite restaurant on the entire island- but it's a little more pricey)
Peace,

Lisa

High Tide is my first stop every visit. They have great burgers, salads, and drinks. The location is perfect and offers a view that helps all the stress of the real world wash away (even if only temporarily). Enjoy!

I'll throw my two cents in here as a vegetarian who's always on the lookout for cheap food in town:

Crazy Crackers has a great veggie wrap.

Shela's Pot has lots of veggie sides but she usually closes by 4 PM.

Mojo Cafe has a couple of veggie dishes like a vegetarian dhal with or without tofu and a veggie pate, good and cheap.

JJ's has an awesome veggie burrito I get every time I'm on island.

Surly Cantina has good cheap bean burritos.

Sogo's has a veggie burger and a great veggie plate for $10 each.

Rhumblines has an awesome tofu Pad Thai but as mentioned before, it is a bit more expensive.
